SIGG, the hardest working Swiss reusable aluminum water bottle makers, are back with fourteen more reasons for you to ditch disposable plastic for good. This month, Elle magazine teams up with global warming activist Laurie David in an effort to curtail global warming. Fourteen major designers were commissioned to create one-of-a-kind SIGG water bottles for our sipping pleasure. The bottles will be auctioned off on April 14.
So, let’s take a little looksy at the line-up, shall we? I’m a little disappointed to see that three of the designers (Michael Kors, Tommy Hilfiger and Stella McCartney) just opted for their signatures. I mean, love your work, but that doesn’t necessarily mean we want your autograph. We want some art.
And anyway, wouldn’t it get confusing: “Whose water bottle is this? Er, is there a Michael Kors here?”
Derek Lam and Zac Posen did sig variations on a SIGG theme, but at least theirs had some circles and crosses. As for Sienna and Savannah Miller, er, how do I put this in any way other than: my two-year-old can draw better than that. And he works without a partner.
Okay, now for the good ones: Peter Som and Philip Lim had some super cool designer sketches; Diana Von Furstenburg’s offering looked like a page ripped from a school girl’s diary (in a good way); Kenneth Cole’s “Is it just me or is it warm in here?” had just the right amount of wry; and the best by far came from Anna Sui, whose creation resembled a one night in Tokyo pop culture explosion.
Good luck to SIGG, ELLE, Laurie and their message on a bottle campaign. We’ll wait with baited breath to see which bottle gets the highest bids. My money’s on Ms. Sui.
