2009 Ford Fiesta Expected to Be ECOnetic

Here’s the 2009 Ford Fiesta, which will be soon available in the U.S. in four-door and possibly two-door configurations. In addition, it’s assumed — though the official announcement is expected to be made in Geneva — that the new Fiesta will also be available as part of Ford’s ECOnetic line.

Last year, Ford revealed that low CO2 ECOnetic versions of most of their autos would be available soon, with the Focus first in line.

According to AutoblogGreen: “Ford hasn’t announced details yet other than that the ECONetic model will get CO2 emissions below 100g/km and it would have only a small price premium over the standard model… It will almost certainly use a small diesel engine combined with low rolling resistance tires, low friction transmission fluid, different gear ratios and some aerodynamic tweaks to get those low numbers.”

What is known about the new line was revealed by John Fleming, President and CEO of Ford Europe. “We chose the Ford ECOnetic name because it links ecologically friendly technology to our kinetic design ‘energy in motion’ philosophy for both driving quality and emotional styling. Above all, it assures our customers that these models will not sacrifice any of the driving dynamic qualities they have come to expect from Ford, even though ultra-low emissions have been prioritised.”

This is certainly great news for the Ford Fiesta. And for the Focus, which in non-hybrid form is already considered a partial zero emissions vehicle (PZEV) in certain states like California. Imagine how unstoppable it will be once it’s been ECOneticized…
