Art Of Shade | Recycling Was Never This Fashionable

In my quest for truly luxurious, fabulous & sustainable life, fashion plays an important role. I’ve long been a fan and a customer of Kayce Armstrong’s Art of Shade fashion label. I first came across Kayce and her amazing fashions as I was walking along Lincoln Road in Miami Beach one Sunday afternoon in 2003. Her clothes were gorgeous and like nothing I’d ever seen. You see, Kayce makes her dresses from totally recycled materials.
One dress I fell hopelessly in love with was made out of an antique electric blanket. You could see the tracks running across the fabric from where the cables used to be-and it was stunning. She makes wondrous creations from old tablecloths and stuffy old dresses and almost anything you can imagine.
One of my favorite dresses that I own of hers is from her chair cover collection. It is literally made from a chair cover and it is amazing! It is also the dress that made her a finalist to get on Project Runway one season. Another one I love and use all the time has shoulder straps made of lace from World War II and I’m constantly being asked where I got such a gorgeous & unique dress. Even all the dresses I used for my CD cover & website photo shoot are by Art of Shade.
Eclectic, creative and multi-talented, Kayce has credentials that include color winning House of Diehl’s Miami Style War, being commissioned by Lancome and Jean Paul Gaultier to design garments for perfume launches, and donating couture gowns to charitable organizations like American Heart
Association and Cystic Fibrosis. Her runway shows include Gen Art, Jam at MAM, Fashion Fights Poverty, Thread and Unzipped amongst others.
Art of Shade is definitely a label to watch so if you’re in South Florida you can check out The Shade Post @ 2028 Harrison St, suite 102, Hollywood FL. You can also learn more about Kayce, Art of Shade, the current collections and even shop some of the creations on her website artofshade.com.
