Billabong Recycles For Project Blue

I don’t surf or even swim, but I love Billabong’s hip and comfortable clothes that make me feel like a beach person even as I’m sitting in front of my computer. And seeing as how I limit my dressing up to weddings, their shorts and tees provide the coolest everydaywear for me.
But now Billabong has gotten even cooler. Check out their sweet art screened Project Blue Sonic Boardshorts made from recycled textiles and discarded plastic soda bottles. Called “eco supreme suede”, this polyester fiber fabric is poised to make a difference on more than one level.
Teaming up with Project Blue, Billabong is one of several companies stepping up and doing their part to make use of the all the trash littering our nation’s beaches. According to the organization’s website, “Every month a beach is closed because polluted water makes the ocean unsafe to enter. Every year a coastline recedes a bit more from overdevelopment and erosion.”
The campaign allows manufacturers like Billabong to donate some of their proceeds from specially designed gear to fund various coastline protection initiatives. “The math is easy: You buy. Your beach wins.”
Other cool Project Blue items include Reef Mick Fanning sandals, Electric sunglasses, a Nixon Lo Down tide watch and his and hers DaKine backpacks.
Sounds good to me. I’m off to the beach. At least gear-wise.
