Brad Pitt and Global Green Finish First New Orleans House

As an eager follower of both Brad Pitt’s and Global Green USA’s commitments to rebuild New Orleans, I’m pleased to report that the first house has been completed for the latter’s Holy Cross campaign.

The single family home has been built to high quality green standards, using all Energy Star appliances and VOC- and formaldehyde-free products, to produce the most energy efficient house possible with the safest internal air quality. Utilizing solar/geothermal energy and rainwater harvesting, the new homes (according to Daily Green) “are expected to save their residents anywhere from $1200 to $2400 in yearly energy bills”.

The house was designed as a modern incarnation of the city’s traditional shotgun style with an open floor plan extending from the front door to the rear one, allowing for the best possible ventilation and air flow. The structure also benefits from a sloped roof, which allows the solar panels maximum exposure to the sun.

Still to come from Holy Cross are four additional homes, an 18-unit apartment complex and a community center. Until those are completed, this house, which officially opens May 15th, will be used as a visitor center.

While Brad Pitt reportedly hasn’t visited the completed house yet, he recently appeared on American Idol Gives Back to raise awareness and funds for his other New Orleans initiative, Make It Right.

Brad Pitt and Global Green USA. Making it right indeed.
