I’m hooked on this one. I’ve been trying to incorporate hemp seeds into more dishes and to replace other nuts or seeds. Even though they are so healthy and taste pretty good, I always found it hard to know what to do with them. Besides for sprinkling them on top of my salads or mixing them with quinoa in tabouli salads. I knew there had to be better ways to get them in larger quantities into my diet. I’ve never liked the hemp protein powders. They are just too gritty and powdery, I hate the texture they give to my smoothies.
What surprised me was that the whole hemp seeds have basically the same amount of protein as the hemp protein powders. They are not actually concentrated, and the protein is not isolated anyways. They are just lower in fat. However the fat that is in hemp seeds is the kind of fat that I want and desperately need in my diet! Hemp seeds have basically the perfect profile of essential fatty acids and the best possible balance of omega 6, omega 3 and GLA. Unlike flax, which is ultra heavy in omega 3, hemp won’t throw your EFA balance off if eaten long term or in large quantities, since it is naturally balanced. It has a 4:1 Omega 6 to 3 ratio just like the diet that humans evolved on for 2.5 million years. Flax also doesn’t contain the GLA that hemp has, and hemp doesn’t contain estrogen unlike flax that is higher in phytoestrogen then soy. I could go on and on about the health benefits of hemp and how it is such a perfect complete protein and high in the sulfur amino acids, but really I just wanted to consume more of it. You can read all about the health benefits of hemp here and here.
Chewy Chocolate Chip Pecan Cookies (by Khatija Dadabhoy of Ghalia Organic Deserts)
On this episode of G Living GreenChefs, Boise Thomas helps out GreenChef Khatija Dadabhoy make vegan chocolate chip cookies. Life doesn’t get any better than this. Right.
A couple weeks ago my husband and I headed to Mal Pais, Costa Rica for some fun in the sun. Our good friend and owner of Mary’s restaurant, a very popular seafood restaurant in Mal Pais, asked me if I wanted to come up with a raw food menu for a few nights. Of course, I jumped at the opportunity of creating a menu that utilized local ingredients but was still something special that no one else was doing in town.
Though there aren’t any exclusively raw food restaurants in the area there are a lot of vegans as well as raw options being offering at other eateries. I needed to reel the vegetarians in. My menu consisted of an appetizer of vegetable sushimaki made with coconut meat, avocado, carrots and cucumbers that came with bon bon sauce and sweet and spicy mango sauce. I also made hemp tabouli with zante currants and no-bean hummus. For my entrees, I made pistachio pesto pasta and beet ravioli with rosemary cashew cheese. For dessert, I made chocolate ganache with vanilla cream and a mango cheesecake. We put fliers up in the middle of town to lure the raw vegans and were surprised how many showed up to just to try out my offerings. It was so exciting! There’s talk now about coming back in January and February and making a nightly menu of raw specials. I’ll keep you posted!
I just wanted to post this video about Oscar Grimm, who passed away last year. I didn’t know Oscar personally, but I did exchange a few emails with him. He is the Co-Founder of Freshtopia, a fun online show about going green and eating a raw vegan diet. The show started up about the same time we started G Living. We took different approaches but we cared deeply about the same subject. The green movement needed a voice and Oscar and his partner in life Tanja Andrews, knew they had a voice to give. Over the next few years, Tanja and Oscar tirelessly created show after show for their fast growing internet audience. They showed a new generation, going green was not only the right thing to do, it could be life changing. Which you can clearly see, going green changed both of their lives for the better.
I am very sad Oscar is no longer with us. I wish I had taken the time to get to know him beyond the internet. Tanja seems to have stopped producing shows for now. I hope she is okay and finds the strength to go on. The world needs her and Freshtopia.
To see Oscar and Tanja’s work, visit Freshtopia.net. You can watch archived shows and read Oscars final post about his very brave battle with cancer.
I can admit it, I am not happy with my body. Not that I am fat, odd shaped or super out of shape, it’s just not perfect and that is my own fault. I have to face it, I just sit around looking at my computer, so what can I expect right. So, when I saw Lori Painter’s Raw Food Diet Bikini Challenge videos, I completely understood where she was coming from. I may not be as brave as she is, to toss on a bikini (I am a guy, so that would be odd and might scare some of you) and start jumping around dancing in front of a video camera, but I still related. I want to get back into shape too and if Lori can get back into Bikini shape eating a raw vegan diet, so can I. Right… That is what your saying at home.. You can do it..
You maybe asking yourself who is Lori Painter, since she hasn’t been a regular here on G Living. Lori is an amazing woman who has decided to take her raw vegan life online in her own blog called Inspire2Act. Professionally she is a health practitioner . Each week Lori completely opens up on camera about her desires, goals, struggles, children and her quest to get back into a bikini fit body.
What is this bikini body challenge all about? Lori said: “I am documenting my weight loss bikini body journey with a motivation to look good naked. My desire for a lean green clean machine is through raw foods and fun balancing workouts. Looking good naked may seem superficial, however our bodies are a reflection of self love and respect. Making the world a better place starts within us. Cleaning up the planet starts with clean people. How can we create a clean green planet if we don’t do the same with our own bodies? My aim is to inspire others to act in ways that honor their bodies and the planet at the same time. A clean body clears the mind to conscious growth and a healthy planet.”
Here we go, the first video and the before body photos. Check back every Thursday for a follow up post and video from Lori.

Here is a picture of me last year where I was at my ideal. I weighed: 108-110. My measurements were: 34-25-35
I did lots of internal cleansing with milk thistle, dandelion, and lemon. I worked out training 2 times a week and a 2 hour power yoga session at least once a week. I also was drinking 1 1/2 gallons of herbal tea or water a day. I did not eat until I had worked out. I earned my breakfast. I made my meals last a minimum of 20 minutes, I chewed until liquid and I ate to keep me from being hungry rather than being full. I took lots of green supplements as well as kelp for my thyroid. Remember a few weeks back when I wrote it was a time of change? Well, you may have noticed those changes are happening. Yes, new site, new exclusive interviews and now… drum roll…. new G Living Monkied Blogs. I know what your saying — no way, monkied blogs, I have been waiting all my life for monkied blogs to come along! I feel you, because I have too. I imagined them to be much more highly designed, but all good things take time and are best done in baby steps. Right.
On that note, I would like to introduce our very first G Living Member Monkied Blogger and GreenChef, Judita Wignall. That is why today’s interview is so special. It’s a beginning of a new trend here. Very personal in-depth, hands on, straight forward, honest, fun, direct posts from the coolest people on the planet. Yes, G people, or as we like to call them here, Monkies.
Just a quick note, to catch everyone up on the Monkie thing. See, the characters all over the site with the glowing eyes, those thing are Monkies. Not Monkeys, but Monkies, and anyone who is as cool as they are, are also, Monkies. People who walk around with a fridge buzz going on and just do things because they don’t have a clue, are called Drones. Trust me you don’t want to be a drone. But there is hope, even for the drones, because the more exposure drones have to Monkies, the more chance they have to transform from being a grey dull drone, into a beautiful ultra cool Monkie. Isn’t life cool. Okay back to our very very special Monkied Number One, Judita.
Who is Judita? Well you could say, most of you already know her. Yes, she may even live in your house. You see, Judita is many things, a GreenChef, an Actress, Rock Star and a Guitar Hero. No not like your a Guitar Hero, but an actual Guitar Hero, she is the hot punk rocker chick Judy Nails character in the game. So, next time you pick up your plastic guitar and go at it, remember, Judy Nails is a Twisted Dark Green Juice Guzzling Space Monkie now. So strum on that.
You must think I’m a chocolate freak with all these chocolate recipes. And right you are. This drink
though is so easy and quick to make. No ice cream making required. The frozen bananas nicely replace
the need for ice cream and are much lower in fat. I like to always keep a few bananas in the freezer,
ready for a quick shake or quick skinny dip in a chocolate bath. Remember to peel your bananas first
before freezing them. I know, obvious, but you’d be surprised… The easiest way to handle them is to
brake them into bite size pieces when they are soft, before freezing them, and add the pieces to a zip
lock bag. Throw the bag in your freezer and forget about them. That is until you start hankering for one
of these. The nice thing about this is that it is actually healthy. (Shhhh….) Yes it’s true though. It’s full of
wonderful things like medium chain fatty acids, electrolytes, anti-oxidants, magnesium, copper, iron, B
vitamins, Potassium, Tryptophan, and on and on. Add the lecithin and vitamin E powder and it will really
be a power breakfast. Full of high quality calories and energy, it’ll get you going with a huge smile…

Beyonce, David Blaine, Billy Bob Thornton, Robin Quivers and other celebrities all praise the Master Cleanse, aka “The Lemonade Diet” for everything from weight loss to detox and restoring their energy and healthy eating habits.
Created by Naturopath Stanley Burroughs, the fast consists of a 10 day fast on a spicy lemonade elixer to cleanse toxins and congestion from the body and purify the liver, kidneys and glands. It is also supposed to purify the blood, balance blood pressure and the most attractive effect is weight loss.
Although it’s really not meant to be a fad diet or quick fix. It’s only meant as a short term fast to cleanse the body. If it’s not followed by healthy and sensible eating habits, and the person goes back to junk food, they will quickly regain their weight and toxin build-up. It is also not meant to be followed for an extended time without expert supervision. The Master Cleanse recipe is 8-10oz. of warm spring or purified water, 2 TB Lemon Juice, 2 TB of grade B or C maple syrup, and a pinch of cayenne pepper.
Mediterranean sushi is very similar to the original sushi in the way that it is presented but it has an entirely different and a standalone taste. It is completely vegan, made with unique vegetables like Lebanese eggplants, violin heads, and organic brown rice.
The Star of the hit show Bones on the Fox Network gets straight to the Green Point. Driving a hybrid and recycling are great, but they are a drop in the bucket compared to just stop eating meat. The impact of raising and killing billions of animals every year for the standard meat based diet is massive. Basically you could be a complete ass in every other aspect of your life, as long as changed to a vegan diet and you could consider your self a super green god. Pretty cool, right!
Here is Emily on her show Bones.
