I’ve not posted in months. For anyone who gives a crap, SORRY! If I could do what I want to do, I’d have more time to do exactly this, because it’s fun, among other reasons. I have pages and pages of blog postage that I spit out over the last few months and then just never seemed to find time to pull together and now it feels very outdated. Not to mention, I just get embarrassed and feel like… really? does anyone really give a shit about what I ate for breakfast? Really? But maybe I’ll tidy it up, pull it together and throw it out there, why not. Someone encourage me please and I’ll do it. Here’s something I wrote on Valentine’s day:
Valentine’s Day!! It can be kind of like New Year’s Eve… too much expectation which leads only to disappointment. Here’s what I’ve learned: don’t expect anything. Then you’ll never be disappointed. Rely on yourself. Love yourself. And everyone else, but really, if you don’t treat yourself well, why should anyone else? I’m hooked on this one. I’ve been trying to incorporate hemp seeds into more dishes and to replace other nuts or seeds. Even though they are so healthy and taste pretty good, I always found it hard to know what to do with them. Besides for sprinkling them on top of my salads or mixing them with quinoa in tabouli salads. I knew there had to be better ways to get them in larger quantities into my diet. I’ve never liked the hemp protein powders. They are just too gritty and powdery, I hate the texture they give to my smoothies. What surprised me was that the whole hemp seeds have basically the same amount of protein as the hemp protein powders. They are not actually concentrated, and the protein is not isolated anyways. I know what you’re thinking. It seems every month is National Something Month, whether we’re celebrating women’s history, black history or pediculosis prevention. But the American Dietetic Association (ADA) has officially declared March the month to reevaluate your nutritional habits, so that’s what we’re going to do.
It’s not a bad idea really; rather than just “celebrating” something (like, say, Irish American heritage), National Nutrition Month encourages you to be proactive and actually do something that might result in a change for the better. It makes a hell of a lot more sense than Library Awareness Month. After all, I’m aware of the library every time I go there. Which is often. But to spend an entire month focusing on it when something potentially life saving like condoms are only given a week’s worth of awareness seems ridiculous and greedy. But I digress.
As human beings, we crave individuality. We want bespoke suits. We want customized license plates (GLROX, anyone?). We want hand knitted sweaters (as long as our mothers aren’t the designers). And we want our very own made-to-order nutrition bars.
