TAP WATER {GLASS} BOTTLES! By Juli Novotny

My latest find was actually a Christmas gift to myself and my family: Tap Water Bottles for the unicef tap project. These bottles are glass refillable alternatives to the standard plastic water bottles – which are not reusable, made of plastic and go in our landfill!

We have been loving them because they are also easy to clean, super durable and they don’t look bad either. You, of course, don’t have to put tap water in them, you can put spring water, green drinks, smoothies, kombucha, tea and the list goes on.

In fact, as shown in the photo above, you can freeze them empty and use it when you want to instantly chill any beverage. Instead of using ice.

More info about the Tap Water Project

In 2007, the UNICEF Tap Project was born in New York City based on a simple concept: restaurants would ask their patrons to donate $1 or more for the tap water they usually enjoy for free, and all funds raised would support UNICEF’s efforts to bring clean and accessible water to millions of children around the world.

Growing from just 300 New York City restaurants in 2007 to thousands across the country today, the UNICEF Tap Project has quickly become a powerful national movement.

Experiencing A Pocket Of Freedom In The Southwest

matt wignall earthship photography 01 Experiencing A Pocket Of Freedom In The Southwest Photographer : Matt Wignall

Neil Harrison and I have started a 3 year project to document the sociology, topography, and recent history of the USA. We will hit every state as we travel in a diesel converted LandCruiser with a tent system built into the roof rack.  We have started a website (futureroadmaps.tumblr.com) and twitter account in the event that anyone is interested in following the project.  The eventual goal is a coffee table book and accompanying exhibits that make up our contemporary survey of American life.  We are on the first week of trip 1.

The Earthship is by far the most genius piece of architecture we have ever seen

The Southwest

Now i’m pleased to introduce you to the Earthship. This pictured is one of the earliest Earthships designed. We stayed here for 3 days.  It sits in a very tough environment and is now getting a bit of an overhaul on the outside adobe on account of 15 years of neglect. Pretty impressive that a few cracks are all it has sustained.  A regular house would have collapsed at 8000 feet with snowy winters and heat wave summers.  Every thing in it is built from old tires and mud, the roof is a rain water catch, and the water is held in the large drum and then used for the dishes and toilet.  It is as off of the grid as you can get, solar, gray water etc.  In the below and above shots from Neil’s digi you can see the tires under the adobe styling.

Creative Home Made Vitamins For Kids, A Spoon Full Of Sugar Helps The Medicine Go Down!

home made vitamins 01 Creative Home Made Vitamins For Kids, A Spoon Full Of Sugar Helps The Medicine Go Down!Photographer Juli Novotny

I’ve been on this darn candida cleanse for like 2 weeks now and my son saw me taking some enzymes, probiotics and so on the other day. He must have suddenly had a flashback of that time he was sick last year and got all kinds of fun medicines. He loved it because there was some sweet elderberry liquid stuff AND those sweet homeopathic tablets. He got very excited when he saw the jars, gave me a fake cough and then said he was sick and needed medicine!

SIGH!

I suddenly had an idea.

I got out {of the trash} a liquid supplement jar and cleaned it out really good, taking off the label as well. I then filled it with some flax oil, vita mineral greens, touch of honey {or yacon syrup}, liquid immune support, vitamin D and oil of oregano. Then I added my own label.

Genius, right?! I guess it’s not that ORIGINAL of an idea, remember that song, A Spoon Full Of Sugar Helps The Medicine Go Down…? This idea has been around a long time, I guess. Try it for yourself.

I’m EXHAUSTED. Tired. OVER IT! My Character Building Two Years

juli novotny character building years 01 Im EXHAUSTED. Tired. OVER IT! My Character Building Two Years

I have been super duper stressed lately as I’m sure everybody has picked up on {no blog posts, and when I do post it’s all negative and rushed and not-so-spectacular}. Last night I was in bed and couldn’t help but analyze my stress.

Of course there are the inevitables – 2 babies that are just 12 months apart & a food company that I’m barely holding onto, just trying my best to keep going despite the fact that I don’t want a full-time nanny – yeah, those things are enough stress for anybody to deal with.

But started thinking about the past two years and the events that have occured. Not only did I birth two babies in these past two years but I attended 10 weddings 5 of which I was IN as a bridesmaid. 2 of my best friends also had babies and another one just got engaged a few months back. I have thrown two engagement parties, two baby showers and one HUGE birthday party here at my home in addition to the many I have attended.

My Sensuous Italian Journey Is Now But A Memory | Aria Alperts, Italian Journals

memories of italy Aria italian journey 01a My Sensuous Italian Journey Is Now But A Memory | Aria Alperts, Italian JournalsPhotographer: V Blak

As the saying goes, you have to repeat your actions, your issues, over and over and f-ing over again until you finally get IT. Until IT, the lesson, sinks into your being fully and completely and you have your AH HA moment. And it’s not until that moment of awakening you realize, all those moments before…the struggling…the suffering…was worth it. Was worth it because now you know. Now you FINALLY know what you want and what you don’t ever want to repeat again. And all those struggles, painful as they may be, make the awakening that much sweeter.

The ever changing, ever present, ever lasting obstacles of life deliciously presented to us all the time. Knocking on our doors to see if we see them, hear them and if so how we react to them. To see if we have changed, grown or need another repeating. And make sure you don’t get too comfortable in your accomplishments of conquering challenges cause the next challenge is right around the corner so you better be ready. Makes life interesting, though. Always exciting. Always shifting. That is, if you choose to see it. Explore it. Embrace it. I am doing just that these days. Have been really for the past 4 months. Embracing with fearless courage and excitement and sometimes patience (I’m working on that one…heee heee) my obstacle rich journey. Finally, interested in excavating why and how and what I do over and over and over again. And ultimately, realizing I have a choice if I want to continue doing what ever it is I choose to continue or not.

The Freakin Blood Sucker Isn’t Dead Just Yet, We Have A Beat

v blak has a heart 02 The Freakin Blood Sucker Isn’t Dead Just Yet, We Have A BeatPhotographer: V Ol Blak

My name is V Blakheart or V Blak for short. A name which speaks volumes about what I have become. I am the perfect example of the typical cold hearted, logic base being, better known as a devolving, genetic, bag, sack, a.k.a. A DGBS Flesh Monkie, in Monkie jargon that is. Or if you are a member of the Red Monkie clan, I would be known as a bar bq sauce receptor or a BBSR Light Skin. Being a DGBS, I have lost control of some of my vital organs and yes this includes the freakin heart. Actually, the nano Genetic Mobile Modifier Implant (Gi Plug), targets the heart first. It’s the most troubling and toughest organ to monkify. Hence the Monkies like to get the blood sucker under control, before moving on to easier targets, such as your digestive system, tongue and those pesky organs involved in human self reproduction.

I am breaking my silence today and coming forward to tell you I don’t quite know what is going on. I am feeling something different. I know my Gi Plug is still active and in place. I can see it growing in size with each passing minute, day, and month. Clearly indicating, my progression or transformation into my final form, which if all goes well, will be that of a N.N.B. Monkie (New Nano Brain Monkie). All newly monkied beings start off this way. It’s impossible for the Gi Plug to develop a fully mature L/B. The logic brain simply takes years to achieve its full potential. It’s only after thousands of hours of tapping into the Akashic Field and the sampling of other genetic elements from the beings surrounding ones self, do you achieve the full Monkie L/Brain.

But enough of that and let me get to my point before I lose half of you Fleshies to boredom. The title of this post is, The Freakin Blood Sucker Isn’t Dead Just Yet, We Have A Beat. I know most of you thought I was going to write about the pet flee band, my dog Basil lugs around, but not today, we will get to the White Lies a little later. Today I am writing about my own long believed dead organic blood pumping, emotion emanating organ known as my heart. A post from the heart about the heart, pathetic.

No, I’m Not A Vegetarian, Vegan, Raw Foodist, or… Anything-ist

sarma melngailis oneluckyduck i am not a vegan 01 No, Im Not A Vegetarian, Vegan, Raw Foodist, or... Anything istPhotographer Sarma Melngailis

My favorite quote on the issue of being vegetarian, or not.  Exactly why I don’t call myself a vegetarian, vegan, raw foodist, environmentalist, or anything-ist.

“I think that people have framed this conversation in absolutes. Either you are or you aren’t. The word vegetarian, I think, does a disservice because there are a lot of people who care but maybe don’t care, or can’t care in an ultimate way. If you think about environmentalism, nobody would ask, “Are you an environmentalist or not?” The question doesn’t make any sense. And the notion that the first time you drive in a car or fly in a plane that you should throw your hands up in the air and say, “Okay, well I give up. I’m not going to try at all anymore,” is crazy. If people thought about food more like how we think about the environment, a lot of people would be eating differently and the whole system would look a lot different.”

Jonathan Safran Foer, from an interview about his book Eating Animals, with Kiera Butler for motherjones.com. To see the whole interview click here. To see his book on Amazon… here.

I get asked a lot if I’m vegetarian, or vegan. I don’t call myself or think of myself that way, even though I eat that way most of the time. Just not 100% of the time. And I don’t like rules. Some people are absolutist about it which is actually admirable, but it’s not what works for me. And I don’t think pushing absolutism onto others is what will change the world. Last Day Of Cooking School | Aria Alperts, Italian Journals

lastdayofschool Aria italian journey 01 Last Day Of Cooking School | Aria Alperts, Italian JournalsPhotographer: Aria Alpert

Last day of cooking school. If I was rocking more sleep (4 hrs last night) these days I would be feeling a bit better but I have not been able to get my beauty sleep this past week. And I am not one to have trouble sleeping soundly. Normally I am out like a light within minutes from my head touching that pillow. But, unfortunately, that hasn’t been the case here. It must be a combination of the haunted B&B I am staying at, the fact that the air conditioning unit in my room is right above my bed so the condensation from the heat f-ing drips on my head when I finally do fall asleep waking my ass back up, the insane amount of mosquito bites all around my right angle, the espressos (yes that is plural!), eating late and drinking like a f-ing alky. Ha! I wouldn’t change a thing though. It’s been wonderfully imbalanced and oh so wonderfully perfect. It’s important to shake things up a bit.

And so today we, of course, are ending this glorious week with a….FISH LUNCH! Oh yeah. Bring back those ‘shit’ eaters. I’m ready…Huh.

We go to the fish market and get the fish. Sticky. Fish markets are very very very stinky! But Silverstro reassures me that the fish were just caught and killed within the hour. ‘Great’, I say with a smile, ‘I’m gonna wait outside’.

Authentic Italian Cooking In Lecce | Aria Alperts, Italian Journals

Aria italian journey cooking school 03 Authentic Italian Cooking In Lecce | Aria Alperts, Italian JournalsPhotographer: Aria Alpert

If ever you have dreamed, as I have, about doing what I am doing, I could not recommend this school enough. I have begun my delightfully authentic incredibly charming cooking school here in Lecce, which is named with utter perfection, The Awaiting Table.

First you must, read all about them on their website awaitingtable.com and then, if the school moves you as much as it did me, get your ass on a plane and come here. It’s time. If not now, when. This has been my motto as of late and that is exactly why I am here. Happy and beautifully blissed out in Italia!

Silverstro, the charming creator and chef and wine extraordinaire, welcomed me with the open arms of an old friend I haven’t seen in years because he decided to move to Italy. He’s passionate and fun and loves, not only a lot of amazing food and incredible wine, but also his authentic appreciation for the Italian culture is contagious and I find myself feeling like a local, integrated into this lovely town of Lecce.

Still On The Road

After doing staff trainings in Whole Foods in San Francisco and surrounding area for a week, I attended and spoke at World Vegetarian Day in Golden Gate Park. It was bigger than last year and also spanned two days instead of one. Then it was on to the east coast. Natural Products Expo East was in Baltimore this year, switching for Washington, DC the year before. It was a good event. Lots of knowledgeable people who really knew what they wanted.
