Chocolate, Chocolate, Chocolate. Yes I know I am repeating myself. When I see the words handcrafted pure chocolate bars, my mind just goes into this loop, like a scratched 45 (i am that old). I get stuck on the idea of that chocolate entering my mouth, melting slowly and sending me straight to… well I would say heaven but I am agnostic, so how about straight to a monkie moshpit.
Posted here on this page, is pure magic, chocolate magic. Yes, not one but two videos (second video after the jump) about the beloved Mast Brothers of Brooklyn New York. They own a little shop were they make some of the best chocolate on the planet. Pure, chocolate, from scratch, from the raw bean. The second video shows the actual process. Amazing. Enjoy….
The life of a mariner is one given over to wanderlust—the quest for adventure, crossing unseen horizons to secure precious goods—only to bring them back to their home port. This same love of adventure and curiosity defines the brotherhood of Rick and Michael Mast. They share a fiercely independent spirit, leaping into the unknown and trusting that they’ll find the answer through endurance and dedication to their craft.Continue Reading / Additional Photos / Videos
My name is V Blakheart or V Blak for short. A name which speaks volumes about what I have become. I am the perfect example of the typical cold hearted, logic base being, better known as a devolving, genetic, bag, sack, a.k.a. A DGBS Flesh Monkie, in Monkie jargon that is. Or if you are a member of the Red Monkie clan, I would be known as a bar bq sauce receptor or a BBSR Light Skin. Being a DGBS, I have lost control of some of my vital organs and yes this includes the freakin heart. Actually, the nano Genetic Mobile Modifier Implant (Gi Plug), targets the heart first. It’s the most troubling and toughest organ to monkify. Hence the Monkies like to get the blood sucker under control, before moving on to easier targets, such as your digestive system, tongue and those pesky organs involved in human self reproduction.
I am breaking my silence today and coming forward to tell you I don’t quite know what is going on. I am feeling something different. I know my Gi Plug is still active and in place. I can see it growing in size with each passing minute, day, and month. Clearly indicating, my progression or transformation into my final form, which if all goes well, will be that of a N.N.B. Monkie (New Nano Brain Monkie). All newly monkied beings start off this way. It’s impossible for the Gi Plug to develop a fully mature L/B. The logic brain simply takes years to achieve its full potential. It’s only after thousands of hours of tapping into the Akashic Field and the sampling of other genetic elements from the beings surrounding ones self, do you achieve the full Monkie L/Brain.
But enough of that and let me get to my point before I lose half of you Fleshies to boredom. The title of this post is, The Freakin Blood Sucker Isn’t Dead Just Yet, We Have A Beat. I know most of you thought I was going to write about the pet flee band, my dog Basil lugs around, but not today, we will get to the White Lies a little later. Today I am writing about my own long believed dead organic blood pumping, emotion emanating organ known as my heart. A post from the heart about the heart, pathetic.
My favorite quote on the issue of being vegetarian, or not. Exactly why I don’t call myself a vegetarian, vegan, raw foodist, environmentalist, or anything-ist.
“I think that people have framed this conversation in absolutes. Either you are or you aren’t. The word vegetarian, I think, does a disservice because there are a lot of people who care but maybe don’t care, or can’t care in an ultimate way. If you think about environmentalism, nobody would ask, “Are you an environmentalist or not?” The question doesn’t make any sense. And the notion that the first time you drive in a car or fly in a plane that you should throw your hands up in the air and say, “Okay, well I give up. I’m not going to try at all anymore,” is crazy. If people thought about food more like how we think about the environment, a lot of people would be eating differently and the whole system would look a lot different.”
Jonathan Safran Foer, from an interview about his book Eating Animals, with Kiera Butler for motherjones.com. To see the whole interview click here. To see his book on Amazon… here.
I get asked a lot if I’m vegetarian, or vegan. I don’t call myself or think of myself that way, even though I eat that way most of the time. Just not 100% of the time. And I don’t like rules. Some people are absolutist about it which is actually admirable, but it’s not what works for me. And I don’t think pushing absolutism onto others is what will change the world. Hello G World. I know you are wondering, just who the “kale” is this new GreenChef, right? Well if your not, you should be. Really you should be, and here is why, because I am not just your average, GreenChef, oh no, I am your average Nutritionist, Foodie, Yoga loving, Canadian GreenChef. See, completely different. But of course, the why’s dont stop there, no not even close. I will start by telling you, I am honestly living my passion. Yes my passion, called food. I am surrounded by this most precious element of life and I love it.
I grew up with a keen interest for anything that was related to “healthy” food. Whatever that meant – some of this included low fat yogurt, boxed granola and snack-well cookies but hey, at least I was trying!
This was the start of my path. I then ventured into the world of fitness and nutrition and very quickly became fascinated with the impact that food had on the body. I loved how what you ate affected everything you did, how you felt and how you looked. I wanted to help people make choices around food that would contribute to how they looked and felt everyday. So I went to school and became a certified nutritionist and started to do exactly that – and this made me very happy at the time – but it wasn’t enough.
Not Just A Label, isn’t really a Brand, it’s more of a marketplace for Avant-Garde up incoming fashion designers in need of a place to sell their latest creations. To that end, Not Just A Label has been racking up the launches of new “G” organic collections. The latest is by Fashion talent Patrick Mohr, Aoi Kotsuhiroi and Spon Diogo, who make up Aoi Kotshuhiroi. Wow, interesting names, right? The collection consist of long semi-tranparent wife beater Tees with, you guessed it, cows floating across the fabric. Yes wife beaters, but wait a minute, these are made from some very nice organic cotton. Yes, the price point is a little high for the average Joe Blow, trailer rocking, beer slamming, practicing wife beater, ( £ 55 ) the normal target for this look. But since this is a Brit thing, maybe they have in mind the Euro youth culture, the concert hopping oh so gay-not-gay semen and their lady friends. If that is the case, as it appears to be in the ads, these cows may just be leaving the barn and never coming home.
Edun, the for profit / charity African Fashion house started by Bono and his wife Ali Hewson, has become Fashion Brand Africa. What do I mean by that. I have no idea. Maybe it just that the company not only manufactures the clothing line in Africa and gives money to African causes, it also has made a major effort to bring Africa / Africans into the advertising campaigns. So even if you never buy a single Edun garment, You will have a kinder outlook towards Africa and the plight of a majority of its inhabitants. It’s like the Movie Out of Africa, they’ve created a romance story about this wild land, it’s people and our duty to give back to where human life began.
Edun continues this romance in their upcoming Pre-Fall lines advertising campaign images. Have a look for yourself. Seamless integration and romance all in the same campaign. I am impressed.
I personally think its good to look the truth in the eye once in awhile. Re-setting my sense of direction. Grounding me in reality. This movie, Earthlings has always done that for me. It’s raw, beautiful, terrifying, sad, comprehensive, painful to watch, and always emotional.
It’s just a film, but its a film which makes me a witness of un-speakable crimes. Displaying before me the daily reality for billions of animals, which I am lucky enough (being human) not to have to experience for myself. It’s the raw truth staring at me, which is more than most of us can handle. We would rather look at the food on our plate as a product, a thing. We don’t wont to think of Veal as a baby calf tied to a crate. We just don’t. We rather pretend its just a product called veal, nothing more.
The average flesh monkie, like myself 13 years ago, doesn’t grow their own food, doesn’t shop at local farmers markets and could careless what a Chicken McNugget is really made of. Which brings me to my point. Watching a film like this is almost un-thinkable for most people. But here it is, living online, just one click away, just one click to see the truth. So, today I am posting the film on G Living, not to scare you or bash you, or even shame you. No, I am posting it here, just so you know, its out there and when your ready, when you think you can handle the reality of this world, the reality nature and the animals of this planet face and the reality of the part we all play in their suffering. You will know, you can reach out, click play and become a witness and then decide where you go from there.
Pure Food and Wine, Sarma’s baby was featured on Infatuation TV. A New York City based site designed around the idea of a solid circle of friends telling each other where to grub down. Prepare to have some fun because I know I did watching this video. Every dish looks so good, they even break down how to make the Zucchini and Green Zebra Tomato Raw Lasagna, so get out your pens or head over to GreenChefs, we have that recipe. When oh when, will there be a Pure Food and Wine London, please someone tell me?
In episode two of Infatuation TV, Minneapolis Hip-Hop artist P.O.S visits Pure Food & Wine with Immaculate Infatuation and shows the world it’s possible to make a dope beat with what you find in the kitchen. I knew Ellen DeGeneres was a pretty cool woman and had broken down unbelievable barriers to become one of America’s most like celebrities. But I had no idea she had gone Vegan. She explains to Katie Couric, how she just couldn’t fool herself any longer. She loves animals and the industrial food system just doesn’t. She even drops our friends Rory’s book (skinny bitch) as one of the sources of why she chose to become a vegan.
Also, she talks about a film everyone should see called Earthlings (watch it now free). A beautiful produced documentary narrated by Joaquin Phoenix. I must warn you, this film will change your view of Flesh Monkies, and not in a good way. Unless you yourself are deeply infected with Drone Fever, that is. If you think you might be infected, look for someone young to watch the film with. Someone maybe under the age of 7, you know someone who hasn’t been infected yet. Checkout their emotional response and try to mimic it if you can. If you start to feel real emotions, then you may just be on the road to recovery! Congratulations to you and congratulations to Ellen. She has just now became my favorite American Gay Woman Celebrity. Good bye Lindsay Lohan, hello Ellen! You rule girl!
Fact: Unless you’re Justin Timberlake, if you’re a white heterosexual male, chances are you can’t dance and probably shouldn’t. That’s why the smart ones will be drinking at the bar while the not-so-smart ones will be throwing some horribly embarrassing shapes on the dance floor. There are, of course, exceptions to the rule and it’s always a pleasure to discover them.
Scissors for Lefty are an indie rock band based out of San Francisco who have shared the stage with the likes of Arctic Monkeys, Blonde Redhead, The Bravery and Panic! At the Disco. Three of the five performed for us at our Venice studios: Bryan Garza on vocals, Steve Garza on bass and James Krimmel on guitar. (It was rumored the other two band members, Peter Krimmel and Robby Garza, were MIA after a mishap involving a very large red helium balloon went awry. Or perhaps they were at work.)
Written by Sunny Subramanian | Since I recently vlogged about how to stylishly rock vegan clothes and accessories, I figured it only made sense to post a video showing y’all how to veganize the inside of your handbag, too. It’s as easy as can be and there’s no excuse not to do it!
Get rid of those nasty leather wallets, those icky, cruel, animal-tested cosmetics, and pack your purse with all kinds of fun and useful vegan goodies.
About Sunny: I’m an über-girlie, compassionate beauty junkie. Cupcakes are my favorite fruit; I even wrote a song about them. I have a mating call that snagged me a husband. I speak Kittese … almost fluently. I love writing and blogging, and I’m beyond stoked to be a part of peta2’s blog posse.
Last day of cooking school. If I was rocking more sleep (4 hrs last night) these days I would be feeling a bit better but I have not been able to get my beauty sleep this past week. And I am not one to have trouble sleeping soundly. Normally I am out like a light within minutes from my head touching that pillow. But, unfortunately, that hasn’t been the case here. It must be a combination of the haunted B&B I am staying at, the fact that the air conditioning unit in my room is right above my bed so the condensation from the heat f-ing drips on my head when I finally do fall asleep waking my ass back up, the insane amount of mosquito bites all around my right angle, the espressos (yes that is plural!), eating late and drinking like a f-ing alky. Ha! I wouldn’t change a thing though. It’s been wonderfully imbalanced and oh so wonderfully perfect. It’s important to shake things up a bit.
And so today we, of course, are ending this glorious week with a….FISH LUNCH! Oh yeah. Bring back those ‘shit’ eaters. I’m ready…Huh.
We go to the fish market and get the fish. Sticky. Fish markets are very very very stinky! But Silverstro reassures me that the fish were just caught and killed within the hour. ‘Great’, I say with a smile, ‘I’m gonna wait outside’.
