Radioheads Philip Selway (drummer) Finds His Voice

By Some Miracle by Philip Selway

“When you’re the same age as the Prime Minister, you think, I’d better get on with this,” Philip Selway grins as he acknowledges the new sea change in British politics but popularity is generally a passing phase while your first album – that’s forever. Knowing time waits for no one, he has delivered Familial, a collection of sublimely fragile, haunting and heartfelt songs that will surprise many, and not only because drummers traditionally don’t do this kind of thing. Familial is so persuasively good, it sounds like Selway has always been a singer-songwriter.

The full album just came out and I am thinking of downloading it this morning, so I just thought I would share a little music joy with you.

I Wouldn’t Lie, I Heart The White Lies

Death (Live) : By The White Lies

By now everyone is used to me professing my love for this girl or that girl or some songstress, who just won’t stop tugging at my soul. Well, today I am officially changing my tune. It’s not some girl this time, no, I am in serious love with white pale male meat. Oh don’t go rolling your eyes at me, I am still a vegan, and I am not fibbing, its a White Lie. Yes, some London Boys are looking pretty mmmm (not sexy if that is what you are thinking). I mean, like they just may be come my official soundtrack for the rest of 2010.

Like I said, the bands name is The White Lies and the Album is called To Lose My Life. Not the most uplifting titles, but there is something special about these songs. Yes, they lie to you and sing about dying, but you have to give them some credit, they do it all with this amazing driving beat, which seems to be purely addicting to me. Really , trust me, or don’t. Just click play on a few of the videos I have added to this post.

The title song on the Album is called Death (don’t worry, you wont cut your wrist right away) and it’s the first video at the top of the page. It’s a great song, but the song which really pulled me in, was A Place To Hide. This song is just… mmmm, and you would know what I mean by that, if you knew me. But you don’t so, I will let you in on the secret. Mmmm is the way I say, I love you, I think your hot to a certain somebody in my life and to give the White Lies the mmmm treatment is big. Believe me…. Very Very Big.

I have posted three more videos after the jump. Now after watching the videos get your Monkie ass over to iTunes and down load the album, you wont regret it, trust me. Plus, its a bargain at $7.99. I downloaded it about a month ago and it may have saved my life. Okay, I am lying again, maybe it didn’t save my life, but it sure did improve it. Without the song a Place To Hide, I might not have found some bodies loving arms waiting for me. I could still be standing in Central Park, with my bags in my hands, waiting with no hope of someone ever coming to get me. It was this song, yes, this song, which made everything, I mean everything, turn out so perfect. MMMMM perfect. :) Do you think I am lying now?

Global Avant-Garde Fashion Group Launches Yet Another “G”Art-Fashion Line

Not Just A Label, isn’t really a Brand, it’s more of a marketplace for Avant-Garde up incoming fashion designers in need of a place to sell their latest creations. To that end, Not Just A Label has been racking up the launches of new “G” organic collections. The latest is by Fashion talent Patrick Mohr, Aoi Kotsuhiroi and Spon Diogo, who make up Aoi Kotshuhiroi. Wow, interesting names, right? The collection consist of long semi-tranparent wife beater Tees with, you guessed it, cows floating across the fabric. Yes wife beaters, but wait a minute, these are made from some very nice organic cotton. Yes, the price point is a little high for the average Joe Blow, trailer rocking, beer slamming, practicing wife beater, ( £ 55 ) the normal target for this look. But since this is a Brit thing, maybe they have in mind the Euro youth culture, the concert hopping oh so gay-not-gay semen and their lady friends. If that is the case, as it appears to be in the ads, these cows may just be leaving the barn and never coming home.

Earthlings | A Film Which Makes Me A Witness To The Truth

I personally think its good to look the truth in the eye once in awhile. Re-setting my sense of direction. Grounding me in reality. This movie, Earthlings has always done that for me. It’s raw, beautiful, terrifying, sad, comprehensive, painful to watch, and always emotional.

It’s just a film, but its a film which makes me a witness of un-speakable crimes. Displaying before me the daily reality for billions of animals, which I am lucky enough (being human) not to have to experience for myself. It’s the raw truth staring at me, which is more than most of us can handle. We would rather look at the food on our plate as a product, a thing. We don’t wont to think of Veal as a baby calf tied to a crate. We just don’t. We rather pretend its just a product called veal, nothing more.

The average flesh monkie, like myself 13 years ago, doesn’t grow their own food, doesn’t shop at local farmers markets and could careless what a Chicken McNugget is really made of. Which brings me to my point. Watching a film like this is almost un-thinkable for most people. But here it is, living online, just one click away, just one click to see the truth. So, today I am posting the film on G Living, not to scare you or bash you, or even shame you. No, I am posting it here, just so you know, its out there and when your ready, when you think you can handle the reality of this world, the reality nature and the animals of this planet face and the reality of the part we all play in their suffering. You will know, you can reach out, click play and become a witness and then decide where you go from there.

Ellen DeGeneres Breaks Her Drone Fever | Interview With Katie Couric

YouTube Preview Image

I knew Ellen DeGeneres was a pretty cool woman and had broken down unbelievable barriers to become one of America’s most like celebrities. But I had no idea she had gone Vegan. She explains to Katie Couric, how she just couldn’t fool herself any longer. She loves animals and the industrial food system just doesn’t. She even drops our friends Rory’s book (skinny bitch) as one of the sources of why she chose to become a vegan.

Also, she talks about a film everyone should see called Earthlings (watch it now free). A beautiful produced documentary narrated by Joaquin Phoenix. I must warn you, this film will change your view of Flesh Monkies, and not in a good way. Unless you yourself are deeply infected with Drone Fever, that is. If you think you might be infected, look for someone young to watch the film with. Someone maybe under the age of 7, you know someone who hasn’t been infected yet. Checkout their emotional response and try to mimic it if you can. If you start to feel real emotions, then you may just be on the road to recovery! Congratulations to you and congratulations to Ellen. She has just now became my favorite American Gay Woman Celebrity. Good bye Lindsay Lohan, hello Ellen! You rule girl!

Scissors For Lefty, Prance, Dance & Rock The Skinny Pants, On The Real G!

Fact: Unless you’re Justin Timberlake, if you’re a white heterosexual male, chances are you can’t dance and probably shouldn’t. That’s why the smart ones will be drinking at the bar while the not-so-smart ones will be throwing some horribly embarrassing shapes on the dance floor. There are, of course, exceptions to the rule and it’s always a pleasure to discover them.

Scissors for Lefty are an indie rock band based out of San Francisco who have shared the stage with the likes of Arctic Monkeys, Blonde Redhead, The Bravery and Panic! At the Disco. Three of the five performed for us at our Venice studios: Bryan Garza on vocals, Steve Garza on bass and James Krimmel on guitar. (It was rumored the other two band members, Peter Krimmel and Robby Garza, were MIA after a mishap involving a very large red helium balloon went awry. Or perhaps they were at work.)

Lykke Li Haunts My Soul And I like It

YouTube Preview Image

Just when I thought I was ready to move on, she pulls me back in. Yes, I am talking about the soul grabbing little songstress Lykke Li. I have been completely sucked in by her new song, Possibility. I am just so taken by it. And if that wasn’t bad enough, now I’ve discover that she has made a music video (posted above). Great, now I can spend hours looping the video. (Can someone save me)

I can’t explain her hold on me really. It’s the slow, echo of her voice calling to me or something. I find myself listening to this song again and again and again, each time, a little more of my inner self starts to sing along with this mystical woman. If your brave enough, let your guard down, allow Lykke Li in for just a few hours. I am guessing your life may never be the same. It’s a real Possibility.

The Kind Life & Chowing Down Vegan Style In The NYC, By Alicia Silverstone

YouTube Preview Image

So, I am out trying to expand my horizons today. No, not in the real world, but online, I did a spin around the other green sites, which I haven’t done in a long while. I have to tell you, I am pretty burned out on the standard green re-hash news headline sites. You know what I mean. Protest this, be upset about that.. so on. I lived that, believe me. I am over it. Now I just want to do things. Hands on, get down and start living. But yes, I am going off track, as usual. Like I was saying, I was out looking around online just to see what the usual suspects are posting about now, when I came across something new. A site by Alicia Silverstone. A newish site called The Kind Life with Alicia Silverstone. I don’t know how long the site has been around, but I have to tell you, I was surprised to see it. The site is a bit like a vegan spin off of GOOP, by Gwyneth Paltrow. Not as polished but you can feel the same vibe going on.

She gets into all of her own “G” lifestyle things. Everything from her vegan dogs, to her new vegan recipe book, eco home decor and on and on. Yes, she is trying to sell you something, her book, but I think the site is about more than that. She seems to be pretty cool, down to Earth and definitely living an amazing “G” life. About the recipe book, I haven’t seen it yet, but I did watch the behind the scene video from the photo shoot and that looked pretty good. I will have to put her book on my list. She even took the time to make the video I have posted above. In the video she takes us all along for a spin around the hottest vegan food spots in New York City. Some of the places she goes too, I never even heard of. It’s been that long since I have been back to NYC.

(after the jump, video of Alicia explaining what the site is all about)

Donna Karan’s Green Drink

Way back in 2007 Donna Karan appeared on The Martha Stewart Show to talk about how her husband (who had recently passed away from cancer) had inspired her to change her life and to help others. She decided to try and help people make better / healthier choices, which would hopefully lead to them living fuller lives. Part of this mission, includes focusing on eating for your health. To bring this point home, she treated Martha to one of her favorite morning juice recipes. An Apple based green drink packed with flavor and nutrition. I have included the recipe after the jump.

As we wrote about before, Donna changed her life and diet around and lost a considerable amount of weight in the process. She consumes a diet of healthy organic living foods. She was on the show with Dr. David Hill who also made a healthy and fresh fruit smoothie that Martha said tasted like the best ice cream ever. You can catch the episode online at Martha’s site. Here is Donna Karan’s recipe for her green juice:

Hope you enjoy this flash back and get inspired to start your own juicing habit.
