Disneynature | Literally Going To The Ends Of The Earth To Bring You Nature

The Walt Disney Company — which seems to own half of the entertainment industry — is now making its claim on the planet.

Studio Chairman Dick Cook announced Monday that the mega-corporation is launching their newest film label Disneynature — which, according to their press release “will literally go to the ends of the earth to produce major big screen nature documentaries”.

According to Mr. Cook, “Disneynature is a concept we look forward to building across the company and across the globe for years to come. And, we hope these films will contribute to a greater understanding and appreciation of the beauty and fragility of our natural world.”

My first thought was: What a great coup for the planet. Disney’s got the eyes and ears of the world’s kids, and what better way to teach future generations important messages about conservation and preserving life as we know it than thru Disneynature?

But it seems my head’s a little too far in the green space. The press release makes no mention of green or eco, just nature. Which is still worthwhile. But hopefully there will be some eco proselytizing going on as well — at least down the road. After all, it seems a perfect opportunity.

Based in France, the new brand unveiled its first domestic release — simply titled Earth, which promises to show us “our home planet as we’ve never seen it before” — on, you guessed it, Earth Day. Up next: Chimpanzee and Big Cats.
