Get Cozy with California Rising

Forget the weather, the perky sales assistants and Griffith Park — believe it or not, the thing I appreciate the most about L.A. (compared to my former home in London) is the fashion aesthetic. I occasionally look back with fondness on trotting around Soho in my Gucci stilettos, Joseph trousers and Liberty pashima, but seriously, I heart California casual. The slouchy, sun-kissed ensembles of tanks, tees, jeans, leggings and the odd hoodie are comfort epitomized. Team up that said ensemble with a $1,200 bag, designer shades and a Kitson shopping bag and you could pass as bona fide member of the young Hollywood set.
The California look may appear easy enough, but getting it right is actually an artform. Just like in high fashion, it’s all about the cut, the fabric and the statement.
Enter California Rising. The “cozy, organic luxury” brand for men has been around since 2006, but now they’re launching their first ever women’s line. The spring collection, “Peace, Love & Trees” consists of über stylish staples like hemp jersey boat neck tops, French terry hoodies, sumptuous supima cotton skirts and graphic “peace, love & trees” tanks. California Rising’s secret ingredient? Their exclusively engineered “organic slub”, a heather cotton knit (that’s a lot more appealing than it sounds), which has been structured in super hot tunics, wide leg pants and dresses.
The other key element in the brand’s charm can be summed up in a word: family. Designer Jules Blaine is a self proclaimed renaissance woman: a mama, artist and philanthropist who, with her husband Joshua Lloyd Fischer (the business acumen) has created an environmentally sound company that donates a proceeds of their sale to 1% For The Planet and supports The Dream Street Foundation, a non-profit camp for seriously ill kids. Their line is available online as well as at Saks Fifth Avenue, Scoop, Fred Segal, Atrium and Neiman Marcus.
Take it from me, once your Californian star has risen, there’s no going back.
