Green Gadgets | For Geeks Who Love Green

If mobile phones, computers and Japanese robotic dogs make you feel all funny inside, then I hate to be the one to break it to you, but you’re a geek. But if you care about the fact that these items (and IT in general) contribute to 2% of global CO2 emissions, then you’re also green. Which is a good thing.

If I haven’t lost you yet, be sure to mark February 1, 2008 on your calendar — or input it into your PDAs — because you might want to check out the Greener Gadgets Conference.

This one-day conference will take place at the McGraw-Hill Conference Center in midtown Manhattan. Considering that the fashion, food, automotive and building industries have already embraced sustainable design, the organizers believe it’s high time the $150 billion consumer electronics industry follows suit. With rapid transformation on the horizon, now is the time for industry leaders, entrepreneurs, product designers and other technical types to get together to green this industry by “revolutionary design and technical innovation”.

Speakers from top organizations like Sony, Philips, MIT, EPEAT and Nokia will address topics including: design for sustainability, product life cycle management, take-back and recycling programs, energy efficiency, greener materials, and green lifestyle and product marketing. Good stuff for techies and geeks everywhere.

Greener Gadgets Conference: convenience with a conscience.
