Greenopia | Your Guide To Green L.A.

Greenopia? Sounds like a fruit basket with cucumbers and lettuce. Alas, it is good for you but you don’t eat it. It’s the green guide to 51 different categories, taking a Zagat approach to “G” spaces from restaurants to fashion to home care to… you name it.
My wife shared the first version with me and in it we found lots of great places, including our favorite spot called… The Spot in Hermosa Beach, California.
This local guide to green living describes its mission at Greenopia dot com as “Basic and Big” — to create a directory of eco-friendly retailers, services, and organizations and conduct extensive research on those listed.
So, how do we know the places in there are the real deal? We know because businesses and organizations can’t pay to be included. You can only make it into this guide by meeting strict standards. Every listing has been screened for sustainability and is compared with the best of the best. That makes it a winner in my book on books.
The $12.95 guide was started by Greenopia founder Gay Browne. Its first L.A. edition contained over 1000 businesses. There’s also a San Francisco guide with plans to expand into NYC in ’08 and other markets after that.
As they gear up for edition number two here in L.A., we’ll be featuring them on The Real G. Before they arrive, here’s the skinny…
