Contributing Monkie G Living Staff Monkies

Hi All, It’s great to be a part of the G Living team. I’ve watched G Monkie grow G Living from a cyber-seedling last summer and it’s exciting to see how quickly G Living has grown.
A little about me: I’m a designer with Sander Architects, an award-winning firm specializing in contemporary green design and prefab architecture. I’ve always been something of a nature girl, having spent my childhood roaming through woods, hiking and camping with my family. Although nature is my sanctuary, I’ve always had a great love of fashion and good design. I am a card-carrying Project Runway addict and have dallied several times with the idea of starting a clothing line (although knowing how to sew, drape, and patternmake might be helpful).
A few years ago I began the process of greening my life. Probably because as a thirtysomething I began to be more concerned about my health (oh the junk food I used to shovel into my mouth). It started with chucking all the Comet, Ajax and Tilex from my Los Angeles apartment and replacing them with non-toxic cleaners (I’m now a tried and true Method fan. I began to eat organic as much as I could (was diagnosed with allergies to almost every kind of fruit imaginable as a kid, then realized I was actually allergic to the pesticides!) You should have seen my expression when I had my first taste of a peach in 13 years–I cried.
My next goal is to learn how to sew so I can refashion my wardrobe, make some kickin’ throw pillows and maybe re-upholster all the inherited pieces of furniture around the apartment. My thanks to Jill Danyelle of fiftyrx3 for the inspiration!
My personal hunt for fashion-forward, eco-friendly clothing and home accessories led to the launch of Fabulously Green, an eco-style blog that reports on the latest design products that blend style, sustainability and social responsibility. A kind of green version of Daily Candy. I’ll be sharing some of my favorite fashion posts from FG here at G from time to time. If you’re interested in seeing more, come visit me anytime at Fabulously Green.
