I am sitting here a whole day after I started this post and I am wondering what just happened. I started my day off, thinking about you guys honestly, I was thinking, okay I need to share my “G” lifestyle daily from this point on. Get out in front of the camera, you can do it, I keep telling myself. I am working up to it, believe me. So, I said to myself what can I share today… hmmm, I know, how about my addiction or dare I say love for espresso. I know, I know, it’s killing my alkaline ph balance or something like that. I hear you Brendan and Tim. You guys make me look bad, being all in shape and perfect fit “G” super guys. I know, I am going to stop soon or at least reduce how much I take in per month. More green juicing I promise. But for now, I am still drinking organic espresso, which our friends at Peet’s Coffee sent over to us. They are like freaking pushers… right (jj) It’s sooooo good, I promise you. One shot and you just want to drop to your knees. They have a complete green organic coffee roasting place here in California I believe. Anyways, they sent over so much espresso, I just can’t help myself but to dig in and brew it up. I know bad monkie.
Back to my story. I am out here in the desert and it is so hot, 116 degrees if you can believe that. I have a new place, which I will show you in another post and I haven’t turned on the air once and believe it or not I am fine. All the windows and doors are open in the front and back of the house and the air is flowing through and keeping it very… hawaii caribbean like. But with that said, you still need something cool to sip on, so my cool morning drink of choice is the iced espresso with a twist of flavors. I have been making it almost every day along with a few other frozen alcohol based drinks, which I will also get into in some future post. I know TIM / BRENDAN / RORY, I hear you.. Bad Monkie!
I am going off track here. Back to what I was saying at the top of this rant of a post / recipe. I have a new friend in GreenChef Aria Alpert, and I ended up spending most of the day chatting and not working. I am such a bad monkie.. I know. I think that is a consistent theme as of late. But she is very interesting and she has been posting up a storm, I hope everyone checks out her post / recipes and welcomes her. She is pretty awesome and not as serious as she looks in her photos.
Now back to this iced espresso recipe of mine, which I made on the fly, after trying a few more complicated ways of doing it. Oh one point I need to make first, as you may have guessed by now, I am not 100% raw. Well, to tell you the truth I don’t think I ever claimed to be 100% raw and in fact, people who are unfortunate enough to get pulled into my dark warped lair would tell you, hey this guy isn’t raw, he is sucking down espresso, like his life depends on it. But I am 70% maybe even 80% raw, just because I love fresh salads and green juice. I have salads everyday. I am a vegan, so no meats or going out to standard restaurants. For the most part, I am living pretty raw. But when it comes to espresso, I just love them and I think I love them even more now that I discovered how to make this very V Blak original recipe. Here we go, time for the recipe. You knew we would get there at some point!
When making a frozen espresso drink, you really need some type of cream to give it a smooth richness. You could just toss together some ice, organic sugar and some espresso shots and call it a day, but it just wouldn’t be complete. I know I have tried, I am lazy monkie in the kitchen and I like quick recipes. In the past I would have reached for store bought Almond Milk or soy (not a big fan of Soy Milk anymore). But GreenChef Jana showed me a trick, a few years back, how to make an amazing tasting almond or cashew milk in just seconds. Her secret was to start with Almond Butter or Cashew Butter, passing up the process of soaking the nuts, chopping them up and so on. She just added the nut butter, vanilla, agave / sugar and some water in a Blendtec Blender and the magic just happened. The most amazing tasting nut milk you have ever poured down your throat. This gave me the idea to make the milk for my frozen espressos. Which I did for a few days, that was until yesterday. I thought, wait a minute, why make the milk and then the frozen drink. This takes way to much time. This could be a one step process and that is exactly what I have here. A blend once Iced Vanilla Cashew Ginger Espresso. So good you will say to hell with perfect alkaline ph, pass me another please. I know Tim… Sorry I will try harder.
Recipe makes a single pitch.
For the Espresso Drink:
24 oz of ice
2 heaping TB of Cashew Butter
2 TB of Agave or Organic raw sugar
2 tsp. of Vanilla Extract or half of a Vanilla Bean
4 shots of Espresso
1/2 tsp of Sea Salt
Optional: 1 oz of Loft Organic Liqueurs – Spicy Ginger Cello or some Fresh Ginger
Instructions: Dump everything into the blender and just blend until the mixture looks something like snow on a muddy New York sidewalk, you know that brown slush stuff. I have to warn you, this takes a powerful blender. I tried this recipe first in my Breville blender, because I love the look of the blender and I love my Breville Juicer and other appliances, but sad to say, it just couldn’t do what I was asking of it. I had to switch over to the pro blender from Blendtec (ugly but powerful) and within a few seconds, espresso icy heaven. Try this recipe out, when your feeling like being a little bit of a bad monkie and when you finished the entire pitcher, head over to Tims and Brendans sections and get your ass back on track! You bad very bad Monkie!
P.S. I am going to start just posting away and hopefully not too many of you will freak out and just run from G Living. Here is a bit of a warning. I suck at spelling and even typing. I can type fast, but half the words in my head, never make it on to the screen. So help a monkie out, if you see any major errors, just send me a quick email. v (at) gliving.com. I will humbly fix the errors of my typing. :)
