The Designers & Agents Show is always an exciting time in the fashion industry. Over 1,000 handpicked fashion designers show their latest cutting edge clothing in three locales: London, New York, and Los Angeles. As a West Coast-based boutique owner focused exclusively on “G” fashion, I go every year to peruse the latest and greatest–but have rarely found anything beyond conventionally-made clothing.
But not this year fashionable friends…D & A finally had its own G section! Affirming once again that choosing items for their environmental impact is not only good for the planet, it’s now en vogue.
One fabulous find I discovered this year is the Rebe Collection–which includes the Sara Sweatshirt made out of recycled polyester fabric (shown left). The mother-daughter design team behind Rebe is based not too far from G Living. Keep an eye on them, as they’re planning to use an increasing amount of organic cotton in their future collections.
Another winner: New York-based designer Bahar Shahpar (shown right). Her collection features playful baby doll dresses, smocks, and balloon blouses ideal for the office. Bahar produces her sassy garments in New York, and all of her items are sustainably made using organic and mill end fabrics, vintage trim and unbleached organic cotton linings. Bahar’s got big plans for fall. Her new line called ‘Birthday Party’ is sure to be whimsical, stylish, and certainly G.
Now that sustainable wares have hit the most discerning of markets, we G fashionistas will definitely be seeing more and more! Until next time! — Summer
