Jason Bateman| Juno to Hydrogen

Here’s a good one: What does yours truly have in common with Jay Leno, Will Ferrell and now Jason Bateman? Is it that we’re all hugely successful media sensations? Yeah, right. Or that we’re all (formerly) brunettes? Getting closer. The answer? We’ve all test driven the BMW 7 series hydrogen car. (That my test drive was only for a few hours as opposed to a few months is a minor detail and kind of a nuisance to this story.)

Golden Globe winner Jason Bateman recently received the keys to the BMW 7 Hydrogen vehicle, a car which successfully “melds the polished luxury of BMW’s largest sedan with the virtually emission-free power of a hydrogen combustion engine. ” The Arrested Development star is the newest member of the BMW Pioneer Program, which lends hydrogen vehicles to industry leaders and prominent figures in entertainment, business and politics as proof that they can be “viable for everyday driving”. That is, if their definition of “everyday driving” means going to lavish homes in the Hollywood Hills, exclusive golf clubs or ferrying kids to and from posh private schools. (Sorry, I’m clearly suffering sour grapes for having to give mine back so soon.)

Nothing against the funny and very likeable Bateman, who was obviously well pleased with his new ride: “Driving in the H7 is like being in a time machine — a full-size luxury time machine… with power windows,” said Bateman. “And in the future, people are smart; they pump water instead of gas! Hopefully someday soon I’ll be able to buy one of these beautiful cars so I can get back to the future.”

Yeah, me too.
