Regardless of your feelings on the porn industry, it’s hard not to have respect for Jenna Jameson. The former queen of the adult world is a self-created millionaire who entered the biz on her own terms and quickly rose to the top. And now that she’s retired (at 33), she’s using her star power to draw attention to causes that are important to her – namely, animal cruelty.
For next week’s L.A. Fashion Week, Jenna is taking her stance public by joining PETA’s anti-leather campaign and posing in a Bettie Page get-up that includes a sexy pleather bikini.
The icon says she was happy to participate because she’s no stranger to sexy outfits made from the synthetic fabric:
“I’ve worn a lot of pleather in my life. Anybody who knows me knows that I’ve kind of lived half my life in it. I love the idea of having choices outside of leather. The outfit that I’m wearing in the ad is so sexy that I suggest if people want to have a better time in the bedroom — then please explore the pleather side.”
Of course, there is a downside. Pleather may be cruelty-free, but it’s not always environmentally friendly. While there are many varieties on the market, some are made from plastics that don’t biodegrade quickly. But they are certainly recyclable.
In any case, I hope there are lots of young girls out there who will be inspired by Jenna and choose to follow in her footsteps. By not wearing leather, I mean.
