Justin Timberlake Bringing Pollution Back | Top Ten Celebrity Carbon Emitters

I enjoy Least Green Celebrities lists. Actually, I love lists in general, celebrity or not, even though I take them all with a healthy grain of organic salt (because you know never what the list maker’s bias may be or where his information was obtained.) The latest one? Celebrity polluters.
This particular gem comes from What Car?. How “Britain’s biggest and best car buyer’s guide” managed to come up with a list of the ten biggest carbon spewing people who happen to be famous (complete with the average amount of CO2 per kilometer they emit) seems sketchy at best. But it still provides us something to think about.
Of the ten, eight are English and two are American. And neither Travolta nor Streisand are mentioned, despite the fact that both seem to pop up on just about every LGC list. Four are English soccer players (three of which I’d never heard of and had to look up on the Wiki), four are in the music biz and the remaining two are film or TV personalities.
What most jumps out at me (other than the obvious fact that I don’t follow soccer) is that everyone mentioned owns at least three cars, with the Bugatti Veyron being the most-polluting on the list. Why on earth does anyone need three cars? Didn’t we learn anything from the rise and fall of MC Hammer, with his seventeen vehicles? I realize that in most cases you’re not driving all three at the same time, tripling your emissions, but it still seems ridiculous to me. I don’t get it. It must be a status thing.
As for the veracity of the list and its information, What Car? says, “the survey was conducted by green motoring organisation City Car Club, and it shows that the X Factor judge’s cars have the highest average level of carbon dioxide emissions per kilometre.”
Are you dying to know who they are? In order (drum roll, please), the biggest celebrity emissions offenders (according to What Car?) are: Simon Cowell, Jason “Jay” Kay of Jamiroquai, David Beckham, Rowan Atkinson, 50 Cent, Rio Ferdinand, Steven Gerrard, Kerry Katona, Wayne Rooney and Justin Timberlake.
For all the details, read the full article at What Car?.
