Kate Hudson Jumps On The Green Product Bandwagon

If it’s a day ending in “Y”, there must be a new celebrity product out there. This one comes from Kate Hudson, who’s teamed up with celebrity hair stylist David Babaii to create a line of sulfate-, paraben-, petrochemical- and animal product-free hair stuff. Called David Babaii For WildAid, the products (according to the David Babii For WildAid website) are “inspired by the remarkable beauty in nature” and “made from exotic natural ingredients” like “volcanic ash from the Vanuata Islands of the South Pacific” and “rich Cupuacu Butter from the Amazon.”

Nothing like a little volcanic ash to revive dry, damaged or overprocessed hair. Ten percent of all profits will be donated to WildAid to help protect the world’s endangered species.

That’s all well and good, but here’s my question (and it’s not intended to sound mean): what exactly does David Babaii need Kate Hudson for? A professional hair person teaming up with an actress to create hair products is like Michael Jordan joining forces with Dr. Phil to write a book about basketball.

I understand when famous people just slap their name onto a product, like all those crappy celebrity perfumes. (Don’t act surprised – do you really think Britney Spears took enough chemistry in high school to learn how to concoct a fragrance? Did she even go to high school?) But these products don’t even have Kate’s name on them. Maybe she’s on board just so people will write about them… Kinda like I’m doing right now.

If that’s the case, I guess it worked. Good job, Kate.
