Helming the 12th installation in the Balance series is the ever-popular Lee Burridge. Spanning over three discs — an extended mix by any standard — Balance 012 doesn’t have the concern of fitting the experience of an entire night of clubbing into a sparse 75 minutes, it actually takes you through the whole evening.

The first disc starts with moodier, cerebral tracks such as Efdemin “Bergwein.” Heavy on the bass, these are definitely the cream of the intro cut crop. The second disc gears up for the meaty part of the evening by ushering in beats, which take the place of the bass as the main ingredient. Still more centered in the mind than in the body, they blend unobtrusively on Pheek’s “Magda Had A Little Troll (Gurtz Mix).” The third disc hits the climax with hypnotic, techy rhythms that have a military tone to them exemplified by H-man’s “51 Poland Street (Extrawelt Tool).”
