What do you do if you’re an A-list actress who wants to be ethical yet stylish from head to toe? If you’re Natalie Portman, you design your own sustainable shoe line. Portman’s signature Mary-Janes (in provocative patent red) will debut with the rest of her shoe collection in February 2008. Hungry fans can pre-order exclusively at the site of NYC boutique Te Casan as early as January 15th.

Portman is the epitome of beauty and brains. A Harvard graduate in psychology, she’s been described as a modern day Audrey Hepburn. She first won hearts with her film debut in Luc Besson’s Léon (aka The Professional) at the tender age of twelve. And if you think that’s too young to know your ass from your elbow, check this — she’s been a vegetarian since eight.
Portman is passionate and compassionate about animals: she shuns leather, only dabbles in wool and recently “traveled to Rwanda with animal expert Jack Hanna to shoot the documentary Gorilla’s on the Brink, as one of Animal Planet’s Saving a Species-branded specials”, according to E! online.
As a Cinderella of the silver screen, Portman can order up any glass slipper she wants, but to date, she’s opted for the ethical designs of Stella McCartney, Sui Generis and Charmone.
But now it looks like Portman can add another name to her designer shoe collection — her own.
