Natural Latex Is The New Must Have Luxury Bed

It appears mattresses have come full circle. While sweet baby Jesus lay his head on a manger of straw, our ancestors slept on rustic natural mattresses filled straw. The 18th century heralded mattresses stuffed with cotton or wool. Modern mattresses took a decidedly man-made turn with the invention of the innerspring and polyurethane foam. Today the natural mattress trend is back. And there’s new candidate for the title of best night’s sleep ever, natural latex, made from the milk of the Havea Brasillensis or the rubber tree.
The experience of sleeping on natural latex has been likened to being “suspended on a warm, supple scallop shell”. But there’s nothing fishy about it. Latex is a yielding, highly resilient material that doesn’t require flipping or turning and can last up to 15 years. Latex usually comes in 6” or 8” mattress form or as a 2” topper, encased in organic cotton and wool. What’s more, natural latex is renewable, sustainable and 100% biodegradable, so not only is latex super comfortable, it’s also great for the environment.
Popular in Europe for decades, natural latex is just catching on as a sleep alternative in the US. Other great attributes of natural latex includes: heat and moisture regulation; an antibacterial property which makes it dust-mite repellant; and finally no “motion transfer” to ensure you won’t be disturbed by a restless sleeping mate. Because despite the trends in mattresses, sleep never goes out of fashion.
