NYT Bestsellers Promote G Concepts

If you’re the type who looks to the New York Times Best Sellers list for reading ideas, you’re probably feeling very enlightened this week. Human awakening is a dominating theme on this week’s Paperback Advice grouping (four books out of ten, to be exact), celebrating the Skinny Bitches, the concept of a better world and Oprah.
Oprah Winfrey wrote a bestseller? What can’t she do?
She didn’t. (At least not yet.) But two of the top ten titles are the works of author and spiritual teacher Eckhart Tolle, who’s teaming up with the talk show goddess to offer an exclusive online class on his latest guide, A New Earth.
Tolle’s previous book, The Power of Now — which inspired readers to “live in the now” — sold an impressive 2,000,000 copies and is still going strong (as demonstrated by its inclusion on this week’s list). His latest offering outlines (via Amazon) “how transcending our ego-based state of consciousness is not only essential to personal happiness, but also the key to ending conflict and suffering throughout the world.” Not exactly frivolous reading, but nonetheless worthwhile.
On the health front, we’re pleased to see both of Rory Freedman and Kim Barnouin’s titles on the list (2005’s Skinny Bitch and last year’s Skinny Bitch In The Kitch), providing a nice segue from thinking right to eating right.
What does all of this mean in the grander scheme of things? It means readers are tuning in to important concepts of enlightenment and change, whether it be improving our diet or using the power within us to make the world a better place — two important topics for those of us wanting to live a “G” lifestyle. We’re changing the world, four books at a time.
