Lighting Recycled /MILLENNIUM CHANDELIER

lightingoption001 Lighting Recycled /MILLENNIUM CHANDELIER

Looking for a unique looking chandelier? Great, Stuart Haygarth has one just for you. Specializing in recycling odd things from around the house or a party or two. Here is his Millennium Chandelier made of 1,000 exploded Party Poppers collected (on 01.01.00) after the millennium celebrations in London. Each popper is suspended on a line from a platform above. The sculptural shape sways and moves like an organic form when hit by a breeze of air. Although this original light is a “one off” piece due to the narrative it is recreated using new party poppers. The multi-colored type is created from blue, green, red, yellow and white poppers. There is also a black edition created purely from black poppers.

Uncruel Beauty

HADASS KANTOROWICZ is on the fence. “I eat less meat than I used to, said Ms. Kantorowicz, a self-described tantric healer who stopped in last week at Organic Avenue, a vegan general store in downtown Manhattan. “I’m definitely a lot more conscious than I used to be. While she appreciates the virtues of a meat-free diet, she stops short of embracing a vegan way of life, one that would ask her to forsake a croc-embossed bag or patent leather pumps. “And I’m not ready to wear hemp, she confided.

Green Fashion No Longer Means TreeHugger

fashiongirl03 Green Fashion No Longer Means TreeHugger
(via washingtonpost.com) Green fashion used to mean itchy hemp sweaters, saggy tie-dyed tunics and a palette of cream, beige, gray and . . . gray. Earth friendly? Sure. Stylish?

Do you even need to ask?

“It had more to do with tree huggers,” says Claire Brooks, president of brand consulting company Model People. “People wearing sandals, stuff like that.”

But environmentally friendly clothing has done a dumpy-to-dazzling about-face, with runway accolades, media attention and celeb fans serving to all but cement its high-style status. There’s nothing fashion people love like a good makeover, and green, it seems, is this year’s Cinderella.

New Thinking Behind Cosmetic Market

foundationmakeup01 New Thinking Behind Cosmetic Market
(via nytimes.com) For a glimpse of what cosmetics marketing used to look like, flip through the recent book “Hello Gorgeous! a collection of beauty-product advertising images from the 1940s, 50s, and 60s. “Glamour for You! squeals one such ad for something called Stadium Girl Cake Makeup, featuring an apple-cheeked young woman and a promise to make the user’s complexion “more romantic than ever. Elsewhere, a presumably satisfied cosmetics customer in a bridal gown is literally hauled off by a handsome man.

GM Pulling The Plug Was Our Biggest Mistake

chrispaignvolt01 GM Pulling The Plug Was Our Biggest Mistake
(via freep.com) My next project may be called ‘Who Resurrected the Electric Car?’ ” Chris Paine — director of “Who Killed the Electric Car?” — joked moments after GM unveiled the intriguing Chevrolet Volt concept car Sunday at the North American International Auto Show preview at Cobo Center.

He might have to hurry if he wants his film in theaters before the car is in his driveway.

In one of most important debuts of the day, General Motors Corp. unveiled the Volt, a hybrid that could get as much as 150 miles per gallon of gasoline. From the hints GM has dropped, the Volt could be on the road in three or four years.
