Be The Smart G/Fashion Diva Your Grandmama Dreamed Of! Time To Recycle And Refresh That Closet

All good style divas know that every twelve months or so it’s essential to go through one’s wardrobe and cull it of extraneous garb. Those stripy leg warmers that you haven’t worn since the ‘80s? Ditch. The low rise denim that gives you muffin top? Buh bye. How about that gold-flecked boob tube that’s no longer age appropriate? Au revoir. Which leaves us with the question of what to do with it? Shipping it to a little sister (sorry, Aggie) or giving it to a thrift store seemed like the only options. Until now.

Introducing Rehash, where one woman’s trash is another woman’s treasure. This unique online clothes-swapping site, which launched in January this year, offers women (and men) the opportunity to get rid of their unwanted duds and revamp their closets. Given that the average American throws away “an average of 67.9 lbs. of clothing and textiles per year” for a horrifying nationwide grand total of “20,370,000,000 billion lbs.”, recycling clothing and accessories is the most environmentally-conscious way to give yourself a whole new look. Best of all it’s free. All you pay for is shipping.

The site has also launched a “worldwide campaign” to find the next eco-fashion design star. Rehash is accepting “original design submissions made from recycled and vintage items in three categories: accessories, womenswear, and menswear”. The winner will have their looks displayed on Rehash’s homepage as well as for a major advertising campaign.

So, dust off those sewing machines and get creative. Hmmm, maybe I’ll hang onto stripy leg warmers after all: they could be crafted into a nice boob tube.
