Sander Architects Enters The Pilot LEED Program

Interesting development closer to home: Sander Architects, the architecture firm we co-live (share office space) with and whose beautiful Canal House we use as our Studio for G Living Live, has taken their G building ideas and entered into the Leed Residential program. One of the firm’s residences, The Fin House, yet another Venice Canal house, was accepted into the pilot LEED program for residential architecture. This is the program by which LEED will develop their list of criteria for residential projects.

Greg Reitz, Green Building Advisor to the City of Santa Monica, is the consultant on the project.

Plans are in the works to include extensive green materials, technologies and strategies. Some of these include:

-optimized passive design
-green materials including low VOC paint, energy star appliances and energy efficient lighting, dual paned / super windows, eco-friendly finishing materials
-construction that recycles all demo material, creates a tight envelope, minimizes waste, machinery run on biodiesel
-water conservation including dual-flush toilets, native landscape irrigated with captured greywater, sky water also captured in a cistern
-energy produced with solar as well as solar hot water
-cool roof system with sections of green (growing) roof

Another highly green project of Sander Architects, the Residence for a Briard, is nearing completion and we will be following that project closely as well.
