Sarma’s Organic Antioxidant Cocktails (raw)

Recipe by Sarma Mengailis | Raw Food Real World (Harper Collins, 2005)

Serves 6

White Wine Sangria:

(Rich in polyphenols and plenty of other antioxidants.)

1 Green Apple

1 Orange

1 Pear

1 Plum

1 Cup Pineapple

1 Cup Watermelon

2 TB Fresh Squeezed Lemon Juice

2 TB Blue Agave Nectar

1 Bottle Sauvignon Blanc

Ice

Dice the fruit and add to a pitcher with the wine or to individual wine glasses with ice, and garnish with orange slices. Serves 6.

Blackberry Sunset:

(Full of Antioxidants and Vitamin C from the yuzu juice. The ethanol in the vodka boosts the antioxidant levels of the blackberries.)

1 Medium handful of blackberries, muddled

2 oz Yuzu Juice

1 oz Lemon Juice

1 oz Lime Juice

1 oz Blue Agave Nectar

3 oz Vodka (or sake)

Prosecco or sparkling white wine to taste

Ice

Fill 2 tall glasses with with muddled berries on the bottom. Add ice to the glasses all the way to the rim. Then mix the yuzu juice, lemon and lime juice, agave nectar, and vodka together and pour over the ice. Add a splash of Prosecco or sparkling white wine to taste. Serves 2.

Melon Kiwi-Tini:

(Kiwi has just as much vitamin C as an orange and 10% of the RDA of Vitamin E, with only 50 calories per kiwi.)

2 Kiwis, peeled

1/2 Ripe Honeydew Melon

1 oz Blue Agave Nectar

1 oz Fresh Squeezed Lime Juice

4 oz Sake

Large handful of Ice

Chop the fruit and throw all the ingredients in a blender, blend on high until smooth and pureed. Add more agave to taste, a handful of ice and blend again on high. Pour into 2 large martini glasses and garnish with thin slices of peeled kiwi and mint. Serves 2.
