Modern “G” Summer Pool Furniture by Viesso

When it comes to buying furniture and living “G” the options are pretty bleak. I think I have seen the same recycled crate seats again and again on website after website. Look, yes recycling is cool, but really I don’t want to furnish my house with recycled milk crates. It’s just not “G”. Are you feeling me. Well, lucky for the G Living staff, there was this company just down the street called Viesso, founded by two brothers, which makes lushes modern cleanly designed furnisher from all “G” materials. Viesso was the company which made all of the couches you see on the Real G shows and our outdoor benches. Our couches are made from sustainable harvested wood, natural latex and recycled synthetic micro suede. They feel amazing.

But todays post isn’t about our couches, its about Viesso’s new line of Pool / Patio furniture (on sale). We now have a need for some modern outdoor furniture, since we just moved out to Palm Desert and we have these very large decks wrapping around our new saltwater pool. Okay, not our saltwater pool, my saltwater pool. And when you look at the decks, they are just screaming for some cool furniture. Right now I just have these semi-tacky very cheap target type patio tables. Normally I would have to look at a store like Design within Reach, which sells the right style of furniture, but I don’t think there is anything green about the materials from which they are made. But with Viesso, and this is why I love these guys, they not only nail the modern design, they made sure by default everything is made “G”. Look at this stuff. Just so clean.

Loll | Sustainable Outdoor Lollygagging

As we get closer to summer, I start thinking about spending more time in the backyard. I think this every year, but this time I mean business. And as a means of being proactive, I recently went to an enormous home improvement chain to look at outdoor furniture. And to my horror, all I saw was metal and wicker.

Metal furniture, while durable, lacks the warm, cozy feeling I associate with outdoor living. It’s too industrial for my taste. Plus, what happens to all that furniture when it’s disposed of? While metal is certainly recyclable, a big chair doesn’t easily fit into your blue curbside bin, so I bet most people just trash it. As for wicker, I simply hate it. It looks cheap and it’s uncomfortable. Who knew buying outdoor furniture could be so complicated?

Looking for an alternative, I stumbled across Minnesota-based Loll. Their outdoor furniture is contemporary, durable and sustainable.

I think it’s official, the idea of green living has seeped into the collective brain of the mainstream consumer. Finally it seems we all understand non-toxic is better, fair trade, equal pay, respect for life, is just a better way to go. Why do I think Green Living is finally being fully excepted? Well for one, every time President Obama goes on TV he says something about a green economy and of course because West Elm (the furniture store) has a section devoted to just greenish products! If that isn’t a sign, I don’t know what is.

West Elm is the stylish but less expensive cousin of Pottery Barn. Both furniture stores are owned by parent company Williams Sonoma. West Elm gave younger shoppers a place to find cool modern clean edge home furnishings at a price they could afford. So, the furniture might not last a lifetime, but it does the job for now. Kind of like a better looking and higher quality IKEA.

Funky Yet Fun 3D Recycled Paper By MIOculture

mioculture 004 Funky Yet Fun 3D Recycled Paper By MIOculture

When asked to explore MIOculture, I must admit I was suspicious. I mean ME-culture I’m familiar with, but MIOculture? And why me — a person who’d (almost) prefer a DUI to DIY, a story for “Home and Garden”? Hmmm.

But then I realized I was already very familiar with MIOculture. It’s the company who created the fabulous 3D wallpaper that adorns the set in our G Living studio. I even helped install it. Well, kind of… Alright, we mocked it up — it’s television, people!
