Another Hybrid motorcycle type of vehicle, which just might appeal to the masses. This one comes from Peugeot. A fairly big automaker in Europe, has come up with the HYmotion3. This machine provides some protection from the weather with a glass canopy and also allows the drive to have some fun, with its ability to really lean in to the curves. The HYmotion3 is also extremely fuel efficient, recording 118 miles per gallon.

Here is the official press release:

Occupying a half-way house between the world of the scooter and the car, the HYmotion3 compressor is a highly original proposal designed to facilitate urban mobility. Attractive thanks to its dynamic, streamlined and futuristic style; it is an interesting concept combining numerous benefits (size, safety and comfort) with “HYmotion” hybrid/petrol technology. This new generation technology creates a three wheel drive vehicle, benefiting safety and driveability and combining economy with an environmentally-friendly specification (CO2 emissions of only 47 g/km in the combined cycle, zero in electric only mode).

Mileage Obsessed Monkies / Extreme Hybriding The *&#% Out Of Your Prius

extendedrange prius 05a Mileage Obsessed Monkies / Extreme Hybriding The *&#% Out Of Your Prius

The Toyota Prius … a “gateway drug?” So claims a well-known actor in a new book of celebrity essays, “The Green Book,” about the hybrid that hooked him into living more “G.” “You know how people say marijuana is a gateway drug? That’s sorta what buying a Prius was for me,” he says. “I love nature, and I love taking walks on the beach at sunset. And if that makes me sound like Miss February filling out her turn-ons in a Playboy bio, so be it.”

Tony Schaefer, one of the founders of the Chicago Prius Club, uses the same analogy when he describes how the Prius turned him from an unaware Buick Regal owner — “Emissions? Didn’t care. Mileage? Didn’t care” — into a “raving, evangelical environmentalist” with a bumper sticker of a stick-figure man blowing his brains out with a gas nozzle.

When it comes to Priuses, Schaefer turned into a pusher and an enabler, turning on people to hybrids, and helping them score that mileage high. “When you are truly inspired by something,” he says, “you should never want to stop talking about it.”

G Living Takes The Lexus GS 450h For A Test Drive| An Environmental Codpiece?

The big brains at Lexus have evidently stumbled upon a fundamental truth of the American car market: instead of trying simply just make cars run more efficiently, it’s more lucrative to make cars run fast more efficiently.

Take the Lexus GS 450h.

Coming into its second year on the market, the 450h is the second of Lexus’s now three vehicles to feature the Lexus Hybrid Drive (in reality just a relabeled second-generation Toyota Synergy Drive). Along with the RX 400h sport utility and brand-new LS 600h flagship sedan, Lexus is attempting to corner the market on performance hybrids, just as Toyota has with efficiency hybrids.

Its 3.5-liter V-6 engine puts out 292 horsepower, while the electric motor-generator ups its power is equivalent to a 4.5-liter V-8. The generator produces some 197 horsepower, but because the peaks don’t match up, 292 and 197 add up to 339. Don’t ask me how.

The HYmotion3 compressor concept is a means of transport with no affiliation to a particular type of vehicle. With its three wheels and its streamlined body, it is something of a missing link between two worlds which to date are quite distinct: that of the scooter and that of the car. With an electric motor in each of its two front wheels, coupled at the rear with a petrol engine, it brings into play very innovative hybrid technologies allowing each of its wheels to provide motive power.

In a world of intensifying urban traffic where everyone is trying to save time, where oil prices are skyrocketing and the environment is more than ever a priority, design departments are vying in ingenuity to develop solutions for the future.

Giving full rein to their creativity and expertise, two separate Peugeot teams converged on a similar idea and finally worked in tandem to develop a particularly original project: the HYmotion3 compressor.

CAF-E Hybrid SuperCharged Motorcycle by Tim Cameron

tim cameron caf e 01 CAF E Hybrid SuperCharged Motorcycle by Tim Cameron

This new CAF-E Motorcycle Hybrid design by Tim Cameron, is just a concept design, may soon go into production. The engine is mated with an electric motor via electronically controlled continuously variable transmission. This sends power to the rear wheels through the shaft drive.

The entire system is similar to a Hybrid Synergy you would find in your average Toyota Prius. But in this case, it’s pumping the bike with that extra power to drive it faster.

We will keep a look out for the real thing when it rolls out some day. But our guess is that, this thing is going to cost you dearly. Think high $80 to $90k. Which completely destroys and “G” bragging rights it might be after.

What Happened To The Electric Future At Volvo

volvo recharge 03 What Happened To The Electric Future At Volvo

Updated on Volvos push to become an electric car company. The company says they have a 5 year $1.2 Billion investment and plan to bring the Recharge concept to market. The project started back in 2006 and they showed off the Prototype C30 in 2007. Since then the company seems be in hiding and may even be on the chopping block and sold off by the parent company Ford. They are looking for buyers, but no takers as of yet.

Ford vice president of sales and marketing Ken Czubay said in a statement.: “We continue to operate in a very challenging economic and competitive environment,”

What does that mean, for all the very promising technology designed into the C30? Will we ever see it in a Volvo or any of the other Ford brands? Isn’t this exactly the thing Ford needs to save their company? The prototype test vehicle uses the same type of technology GM says they are rolling out in the Volt. An electric motor system assisted by a small gas engine generator, which would only produce electricity for the electric motors to us. The Volvo concept takes that a step further by placing the motors in the wheels.

The Prototype C30 Technology test and concept vehicle that works: an electric car with a combustion engine as backup. It’s called the Volvo ReCharge, and it reminds us a lot of the Chevy Volt. Except that it looks likes a Volvo C30 hatchback and has funky green wheels.

One For The James Bond Monkies, The Lexus HS 250h Hybrid

lexus hs250h 01 One For The James Bond Monkies, The Lexus HS 250h Hybrid

A James Bond Monkie wet dream of a car. Yes, Lexus knows how to put together a luxury car. We found that out first hand, last year. So, when they revealed the 2010 HS 250h, the world’s first dedicated luxury hybrid vehicle we where guessing it would be nice. But this thing is really beyond nice. It’s got everything. Camera’s, joysticks, ipod connectors, dedicated power plugs, plush seats (which might not be leather, cross your fingers), beautiful displays and beyond 40 miles per gallon range.

During the big introduction show, they wouldn’t give the official miles per gallon, but they claim it will be better than the micro size Smart Car. Which is pretty amazing for a full size luxury sedan. It also will be the first Lexus to utilize carbon-neutral Ecological Plastic materials in a new futuristic cockpit and interior design. Last year when we where given the Lexus LS 600h and GS 450 for a week to drive around, are only real complaint was all the leather. If they stripped the leather out and had eco-faux leather, the cars would have been amazing.

Electrobike Pi-E | Two-Wheeled Urban Transport

electrobike1 Electrobike Pi E | Two Wheeled Urban Transport

We are inching towards a two-wheeled urban future with several new electric bikes out there, and we can add the Pi-E to the mix. Electrobike actually offers several powered alternatives to the car, all of which sport the distinct Pi-series arched frame.

The Pi-E is powered by plug-in electric (not my favorite alternative) for local jaunts to the grocery store, park or just a little town cruise. It’s also freeway-legal for those who want to test their courage. All you need to do is add the optional gas engine and you’ve got yourself a little Prius-like hybrid. But beware, it looks like you just strapped on a weedeater engine. And although you can ride it on the highway, I’d feel a lot more comfortable on one of the bigger motorcycles available for about the same price.

Fisker Is Becoming A Real Tesla Challenger

fisker karma 02 Fisker Is Becoming A Real Tesla Challenger

For the past few years, Tesla Motor has been the only high performance, high design, electric car company in the headlines. Taking all the glory and all the bashing that comes with creating a forward thinking company like Tesla. But that time seems to be coming to an end. A one time Tesla partner and now competitor, Fisker has developed their own line of cars, called Karma. Their very first extended range all electric luxury sedan is about to hit the roads, the company says in late 2009.

But Fisker is done, they have already developed a second generation car called the Karma S- for Sunset — concept that debuted at the Detroit auto show shares its gas-electric drivetrain with the Karma sedan but wraps it in an even sleeker two-door body that could see production within two years. The California startup’s range-extended electric vehicles — like the Tesla Roadster, Cadillac Converj concept and high-dollar hybrids from Mercedes and BMW — point to an emerging market of premium green cars that place as much importance on performance as they do efficiency.

Chrysler Jumps Over GM With Full Electric Cars

chrylser electric dodge ev 01 Chrysler Jumps Over GM With Full Electric Cars

So I wake up today to yet another American auto giant saying they will lead the “charge” to an electric vehicle future. This time it was the almost forgotten Chrysler company. The company which has brought us the American classics, such as the Jeep, the Dodge Viper and even the dull but popular PT Cruiser.

I personally would have never guessed Chrysler could wake up quick enough to jump over the new green startups such as Tesla and Aptera. Or catch up to the other majors such as GM their new Volt ev vehicle and or the market leader, Toyota with their hybrid lines. They seem to not only have been able to catch up but in many ways are in the process of passing all of these companies, by transforming their existing platforms into all electric or gas assist electric vehicles.

To prove this, Chrysler today rolled out their classic Jeep and Minivan Voyager in gas assist versions. They went with electric motors in the wheel hubs, giving the vehicles 40 mile range in pure electric mode and 400 miles with gas assist.

Fisker Plug-In Hybrid | Spendy But Stylish

fisker 01 Fisker Plug In Hybrid | Spendy But Stylish

Green gets stylized with an air of sophistication as Quantum Technologies and Fisker Coachbuild LLC team up to bring us Fisker Automotive, Inc. Calling themselves the green American premium car company, their first roll-out will be four-door plug-in hybrid premium sports sedan, which is slated to debut at the Detroit Auto Show in January.

The price tag for this eagerly anticipated vehicle starts at $80,000. Sound a bit steep for a sedan, I know — but just wait until you see what your money gets you. The performance details include being able to achieve an impressive 50 miles on a pure electric charge. (Utilizing an optional gasoline or diesel fuel engine can extend that to 620 miles.) And those of you wanting to do your part to squash the foreign oil biz will be glad to know the Fisker also provides a whopping 100 miles per gallon of performance.
