Diary of a Juice-Fasting Skinny Bitch

rory freedman 01 Diary of a Juice Fasting Skinny Bitch

Day 1: I always say that the secret of success to healthy eating is being prepared. So I’m kicking myself right now. For months, I’ve known that this would be the week I did a juice fast. Clearly, I had ample time to prepare. And I did, to some degree. I spent the week prior eating exceptionally well. I drank a ton of water. I carefully plotted what I would eat so that my house would be nearly barren when day one arrived. What I neglected to do: get a juicer. And buy fruits and vegetables to juice. Duh. I had arranged with my neighbor to borrow his juicer.

But when I called to get it today, he was busy, so he said he’d drop it off later while I was at the gym. (We have keys to each other’s apartment.) So I went to the gym, had a great workout. Started talking to this cute guy. And before I knew it, it was like three o’clock, and I’d yet to have anything but water. The cute guy offered to buy me a juice (and to take me out to dinner). They had fresh squeezed orange and carrot juices on the menu. But they were out of oranges and carrots! Now, I was in trouble. I knew that by the time I walked home, got my car and went to Whole Foods, and got back with all my fruits and veggies, it would be at least an hour. Fuck! So not prepared. After grilling the poor juice girl, I settled on a smoothie. It was made with frozen mango and pineapple and water. It tasted good, but frozen fruit smoothies weren’t exactly what I was after when I decided to do my fast. I was a little disappointed in myself, but remembered this juice fast wasn’t about being perfect. But I vowed that from that point on, I’d be prepared. Continue Reading / See Additional Photos

Part One | My Blessed Herbs Colon Cleanse

Day One

I feel a little apprehensive talking about my colon but I know so many of you out there are curious about cleanses and detoxes. I’ve done this particular cleanse four times in the past two years (once every 6 months). It’s a five day liquid fast kit that you can purchase online at blessedherbs.com for $89.50. The kit includes 30 packets of the Toxin Absorber which is a psyllium husk/bentonite clay/apple pectin/herbal formula you mix with apple juice and drink five times a day. The psyllium husks act as a broom to sweep debris from your intestines while the bentonite clay draws out toxins (sort of like a facial clay mask but for your GI system). You can enjoy fruit and vegetable juices in between the apple juice concoction and best to obstain from all solid foods. I’ve done different juice fasts in the past including the Master Cleanse for 14 days and enjoy this one the most. The fiber drink helps take the edge off my hunger and the ‘results’ you see in the bathroom are, well, satisfying. It’s a very thorough spring cleaning to say the least. The kit also comes with a jar of Digestive Stimulator pills that help gently move things along.

My New Life as a Juicer | Part One, Fitness and Tools of the Trade

basil juicing life 11 My New Life as a Juicer | Part One, Fitness and Tools of the Trade

Just like the title of the site says, I am a dark twisted green juice guzzling Monkie or at least that is my goal. Right now I have the dark and twisted thing down. I have been a vegan for about 12 years and in all that time, I have never really taken my health into consideration. I am a burn the candle at both ends kind of guy. I don’t know how to not be extreme. I am famous for confusing work as living. As soon as my eyes crack open in the morning, I start my long 12, 24 or 96 hour shift. Yes, for years I did 96 hours straight, with just naps and truck loads of espresso to keep my body going. So you know my blood is all out of wack and way on the acid side. Maybe not as bad as the average pillow butt American, but pretty bad. No offense to you Pillow butts out there.

Don’t get me wrong, I eat pretty healthy, I am a vegan, you wont find any McAnything stuck in my intestines, but I don’t eat with health in mind. My diet has been increasing over the years towards raw organic whole foods, such as salads and farmer market veggies. But I still eat a good amount of cooked items, such as asian noodles, frozen corn and worst of all bags of organic corn chips. I just crave chips, salsa and guacamole. I guess my years in Texas has altered my DNA, causing my cells to scream for anything remotely mexican foodish. For some reason I just love them in a sad food bingeing bag inhaling stomach aching way. You know what I mean. You think you want to eat them, but half way through the bag, they turn on you and form a concrete lump within your stomach.

The RawReform 5-Day Juice Plan for Detox and Weight Loss

juice feast carrots 01 The RawReform 5 Day Juice Plan for Detox and Weight Loss

If you’re looking for a simple, practical way to spring-clean your system, how about trying a 5-day juice FEAST? Taking a break from solid foods and instead fueling your body on only fresh, raw, nutrient-rich juices is a great way to cleanse. The body gets a rest from digesting and can use that energy instead to clear out old accumulated waste. You will also be getting a break from any refined sugars, processed starches, animal products, other cooked foods or stimulants you may normally ingest. This makes a HUGE difference for most people. You’ll lose weight, feel lighter and cleaner and best of all, can use this break as a spring-board into a healthier lifestyle afterwards.

Fasting vs. FEAST-ing

Juice fasting has a very long history as a detox method, but can seem intimidating and inaccessible to many, who may fear feeling ‘deprived’. Indeed, while juice fasting, people often consume very small amounts of calories and end up feeling weak, dizzy and fatigued. It’s just not that practical for anyone living a modern, fast-paced lifestyle. That’s where juice FEAST-ing is different. Juice feasting is about getting all the calories you need in a day (e.g. 1500 for an average woman) directly from juices. You still lose weight and detox, as your body has space to work on things other than digesting solid foods, but there is no feeling of ‘lack’. It is a fast, effective and highly beneficial way to cleanse, rehydrate, alkalise and re-build your body.

Juice Feasting | 92 Days of Nothing but Juice

angela stokes 01 Juice Feasting | 92 Days of Nothing but Juice

(Re-featured - Angele Stokes Amazing Courage and Spirit For Positive Change – Posted in 2007)

They say that fiber is a big key to a healthy diet, and it’s true, fiber is very important. However, sometimes it’s the lack of fiber that helps cleanse and flush out the toxins and access fat. And I’m not talking about a fast food diet of white bread and coke. Rather it is a unique nutritional approach that is similar to a fast accept that you are giving your body all the same calories and nutrition it needs, just minus the fiber. Angela Stokes calls it a Juice Feast Diet, and she has just come off of doing the diet for 92 days. For the past 3 months, Angela has not consumed a single piece of solid food or fiber. Her diet consisted of 1500 calories a day of vegetable and fruit juices, water, coconut water and some oils. Angela Stokes, prior to going on this juice diet, had been on an all raw diet for several years. Before she went on the raw diet she weighed 279 lbs. After going on the diet she got down to 138lbs. She lost 18 lbs. after the 92 days.

Here is a video blog of Angela on the day she broke her 92 day juice fast explaining what her amazing experience and transformation was like and what is like to eat a piece of solid food again after so long.

Stop Counting Calories & Enjoy Your Weight Loss

happygirl bw01 Stop Counting Calories & Enjoy Your Weight Loss

How many overweight wild antelope have you ever seen? What about morbidly obese zebras waddling around the savannah? Wild animals don’t deal with overweight or obesity issues. Wild animals don’t usually eat cooked or processed foods. They eat raw foods, in their natural state and maintain ideal body weight. The human body is designed to run on the clean fuel of raw foods too, just like all the other animals. Through our experiments with cooking and processing foods however, we have moved ever further away from simplicity, towards the so-called “Franken-foods” and we pay for it with our health. Our addictions to processed starches, refined sugars and greasy foods lead to widespread obesity, which we then try to “fix” with yet more processed, chemical pills, powders and packet foods.

The majority of people in the UK and USA are dealing with overweight or obesity issues. The consequences are enormous from increased illness and medical costs, to lost work days, family tensions and more. The obesity epidemic infiltrates all aspects of life. Not surprisingly then, the weight loss market is one of the largest industries in the world and growing constantly. Bombarded with slimming plans, pills, powders, and pre-packaged, processed diet foods, slimmers fret about calories, fat grams, low-carb, no-carb and all number of issues. There are literally thousands of different diets available and a HUGE amount of conflicting information. It can be very confusing to decide how to lose weight.

In contrast, a raw food lifestyle is all about keeping it simple. No more calorie counting or portion controlling it’s about returning to natural, nutrient-rich foods. Choosing to simply include more raw foods daily, as part of a permanent lifestyle change, can help you lose weight, detox and enjoy much more energy.
