I am sitting here a whole day after I started this post and I am wondering what just happened. I started my day off, thinking about you guys honestly, I was thinking, okay I need to share my “G” lifestyle daily from this point on. Get out in front of the camera, you can do it, I keep telling myself. I am working up to it, believe me. So, I said to myself what can I share today… hmmm, I know, how about my addiction or dare I say love for espresso. I know, I know, it’s killing my alkaline ph balance or something like that. I hear you Brendan and Tim. You guys make me look bad, being all in shape and perfect fit “G” super guys. I know, I am going to stop soon or at least reduce how much I take in per month. More green juicing I promise. But for now, I am still drinking organic espresso, which our friends at Peet’s Coffee sent over to us. They are like freaking pushers… right (jj) It’s sooooo good, I promise you. One shot and you just want to drop to your knees. They have a complete green organic coffee roasting place here in California I believe. Anyways, they sent over so much espresso, I just can’t help myself but to dig in and brew it up. I know bad monkie.
Back to my story. I am out here in the desert and it is so hot, 116 degrees if you can believe that. I have a new place, which I will show you in another post and I haven’t turned on the air once and believe it or not I am fine. All the windows and doors are open in the front and back of the house and the air is flowing through and keeping it very… hawaii caribbean like. But with that said, you still need something cool to sip on, so my cool morning drink of choice is the iced espresso with a twist of flavors. I have been making it almost every day along with a few other frozen alcohol based drinks, which I will also get into in some future post. I know TIM / BRENDAN / RORY, I hear you.. Bad Monkie!
When buying fresh fruits, select fruits that are fresh, plump, firm without any bruises, pits or black spots. It is always best to select seasonal fruits like summer fruits in summer months and winter fruits in winter months, as they are rich in nutrients, full of flavor and inexpensive in season. Store them in the refrigerator until eaten and consume within a week. Generally, the brighter the color of the fruit, the more nutrients present in them. So select apples that are well colored, red, pink, golden yellow, or green, grapes that are well colored and firmly attached to green stems, mangoes that are bright yellow or red, bananas that are firm with rich yellow color without any spots or bruises, watermelons that are bright green, cantaloupes or rock melons with yellow or creamy underside, berries that are brightly colored, fresh and firm without any mold or leaking juices, etc. If they are underripe, place them in a brown paper bag at room temperature until ripened and then place them in the refrigerator.
I’m hooked on this one. I’ve been trying to incorporate hemp seeds into more dishes and to replace other nuts or seeds. Even though they are so healthy and taste pretty good, I always found it hard to know what to do with them. Besides for sprinkling them on top of my salads or mixing them with quinoa in tabouli salads. I knew there had to be better ways to get them in larger quantities into my diet. I’ve never liked the hemp protein powders. They are just too gritty and powdery, I hate the texture they give to my smoothies.
What surprised me was that the whole hemp seeds have basically the same amount of protein as the hemp protein powders. They are not actually concentrated, and the protein is not isolated anyways. They are just lower in fat. However the fat that is in hemp seeds is the kind of fat that I want and desperately need in my diet! Hemp seeds have basically the perfect profile of essential fatty acids and the best possible balance of omega 6, omega 3 and GLA. Unlike flax, which is ultra heavy in omega 3, hemp won’t throw your EFA balance off if eaten long term or in large quantities, since it is naturally balanced. It has a 4:1 Omega 6 to 3 ratio just like the diet that humans evolved on for 2.5 million years. Flax also doesn’t contain the GLA that hemp has, and hemp doesn’t contain estrogen unlike flax that is higher in phytoestrogen then soy. I could go on and on about the health benefits of hemp and how it is such a perfect complete protein and high in the sulfur amino acids, but really I just wanted to consume more of it. You must think I’m a chocolate freak with all these chocolate recipes. And right you are. This drink
though is so easy and quick to make. No ice cream making required. The frozen bananas nicely replace
the need for ice cream and are much lower in fat. I like to always keep a few bananas in the freezer,
ready for a quick shake or quick skinny dip in a chocolate bath. Remember to peel your bananas ﬁrst
before freezing them. I know, obvious, but you’d be surprised… The easiest way to handle them is to
brake them into bite size pieces when they are soft, before freezing them, and add the pieces to a zip
lock bag. Throw the bag in your freezer and forget about them. That is until you start hankering for one
of these. The nice thing about this is that it is actually healthy. (Shhhh….) Yes it’s true though. It’s full of
wonderful things like medium chain fatty acids, electrolytes, anti-oxidants, magnesium, copper, iron, B
vitamins, Potassium, Tryptophan, and on and on. Add the lecithin and vitamin E powder and it will really
be a power breakfast. Full of high quality calories and energy, it’ll get you going with a huge smile…

Giving a recipe for a shake is kind of odd for me, because I usually just throw in whatever frozen fruit I have with whatever creamy base I have and add a squirt of agave and a dash of vanilla etc. My shakes don’t vary that much. I would like to try new flavors and combinations though. This one has cherries, raspberries and banana in cashew milk.
I’ve had only liquids for a whopping three days so far. I saw this piece about Angela Stokes who did this for 92 days. That’s a loooong time! Doing what I do, it’s not easy to not actually eat anything, be we’ll see. Last time I tried this my energy spiked and it felt pretty good, so I’ll report back soon. For now, below is a recipie for a shake I drink almost every day (even when not doing this whole liquid-only thing). I LOVE cilantro, and below you’ll also find some reasons why that’s a good thing (now I sound like Martha).
I add some thawed E3-Live to mine (you can dump a few tablespoons in and barely taste it, and trust me, you don’t want to taste E3-Live unless you’re one of those rare folk that like the taste of wheatgrass, because that’s what it tastes like, funkiness multiplied!), as well as some tocotrienols (tasty), and top it off with a sprinkle of bee pollen. Yum. If I was a guy I might throw in some hemp protein for good measure.

Free radicals are everywhere – in the water we drink, food we eat, and in the air we breathe. The main defense to free radicals (coming from pollution, x-rays, radiation, chemicals, heavy metals) are antioxidants. Cilantro leaves are rich in calcium, iron, carotenes, and vitamin C, which it happens are great antioxidants. A Japanese investigator, Yoshiaki Omura, has made the revolutionary discovery that cilantro can mobilize mercury and other toxic metals from the central nervous system if large enough amounts are consumed daily. Reuters reports that cilantro contains a chemical which has been found to kill the Salmonella bacteria that cause foodborne illness.
