Temporary Hotel Pods | A Great Place To Crash

The best thing about container-type housing is the portability factor. With portability comes options. And options generally reduce waste. It’s like having people over for dinner and bringing out the cheap folding chairs.
That’s exactly what the Travelodge hotel chain proved last year in London. Rather than building costly and permanent hotels in areas with temporarily expanded needs, the company simply erected non-permanent structures using prefab sleep pods. The chain suggested outdoor festivals (such as Burning Man) could greatly benefit from such a concept.
So could hot but short lived travel destinations. Instead of building a costly hotel for one or two seasons’ worth of vacation trendiness, you could use these. And when that spot loses its appeal, you simply move them to wherever the elite designates.
Granted, these are not recycled shipping containers, but the concept is the same. Travelodge just opted to create these self-contained sleep pods – which, by virtue of their portability, are fully recyclable. And each reportedly contains the standard hotel amenities: bed, potty, TV, DVD, A/C and coffee.
I’m packing my bags now.
