Producer, remixer and DJ Tom Middleton is one of the UK’s most acclaimed electronic music architects. His original works (namely under the Global Communications and Jedi Knights monikers) heavily influenced a legion of electronic/dance music heavyweights including the Prodigy, the Chemical Brothers and Daft Punk. He is also a much sought-after remixer, having reconstructed tracks for an impressive array of artists such as Kylie Minogue, Sia, Jamiroquai, Röyksopp, Faithless, Bebel Gilberto, Goldfrapp, Bittersweet and many more.
For his solo debut, Middleton takes a detour from the dancefloor to unearth a more subtle and contemplative collection of lush and organic instrumental passages somewhere between the Café Del Mar series, FSOL, Craig Armstrong and Zero 7. Lifetracks transports you back to the post-acid jazz and chill-out heyday. And despite occasional drifts into the dreaded wallpaper muzak zone, engaging tracks like “Serendipity,” “St. Ives Bay,” “Moonbathing” and “Optimystic” more than deliver the simmering, supple textures and soulful, undulating rhythms to sufficiently retain the blissed-out mood.
